I have ran across a 2001 regular cab five speed 4wd with air, bed liner, and all the basics. Also has an older truck cap on it. Truck has 132k miles on it. One owner. Timking nelt and water pump has not been replaced. Guy is asking 4900 for it. What shud I offer himk for it and if I buy it and don't like it how much cud I sell it for? Guy said parking brake is stuck. What's remedy for that?

How clean is it? Deduct a $1000 for timing belt and water pump, they can go out at any time, need to be replaced.

If its reg cab it has the 2.7 4 cyl not the v6 so you dont have to worry about the timing belt. Here in Va that truck would go for 6500-8000 easily...

Personally I would have no problem paying the asking price for that truck. If you like though, as a bargaining chip, you could deduct $1,000 (as previously said) for the timing chain and water pump.

I was going to try and get it for like $3800. I recnetly just purchased a truck so if i bought this one id probably flip it. But you say these ones have timing chains? Whats the maintainecne on something like that? Also, he said the parking brake is stuck and he said it was probably cuz its rusted. Whats the fix for that? Any and all advise would help me out cuz id like to jump on this one, but not sure of what i may be getting into.

He claims its in good shape, but hes been kind of short with me when i was texting him. I think i may give him a call tomrw. How long do timing chains hold up? And what cud be the fix for the stuck parking brake?

rusted e brake is a bad sign. These trucks rust out like no other so you definitely want to thoroughly check out the frame for rust/holes.

IF the frame is clean, its easily worth 6k, probably more if its really clean.

edit: timing chain is good pretty much for the life of the engine

Yea, Im going to have to ask him to see if the frame has already been replaced or not. Lets say the frame checks out. Are you able to replace the ebrake? If so, how much doe sthat cost?

check out your local junkyards for the ebrake parts, shouldn't be very expensive

Yea, ill have to ask him about the frame and salvage title too! I dint even think of that bu thats a possibility. So having said that, if everythign checks out, clean frame and clean title, what should I offer. Lets say it has a clean title, but the frame is rusted, then what. If its salavage im not gnna even bother. Let me know what you think.

If the frame is good and it is very clean/runs good, offer around 4,500.

If the frame has holes stay away IMO.

So is the truck techincally worth less if I were to buy the truck and get the frame replaced?

Thats for the offer tho. Im still contemplating what to do. Maybe after i talk to him tomrw about it all ill have a better idea.

well idk, you would have to talk to your dealership first because I know they have a deadline for getting it inspected coming up soon. If you can get it replaced then it would be worth buying.

Alright, lets say i buy it for $4500. Frame is either in good shape or its replaced. If i wanted to sell it myself, what do you think I could get out of it ?
