It's okay, the automotive world (pretty much the entire world) has come a long way the last 1/4 century.
Try it, you may like the extra time and money to enjoy other activities.

Wow, i thought i was old school until i found out how good the synthetics, and newer vehicles are now. I came from a 2001 tundra that used conventional dino motor oil. 5k changes were the norm at the time. Well i switched to synthetic mobil after the 1st oil changed, and let it go to 7500, then to 10k miles, finally an entire 15-18k miles a year. No issues whatsoever after 19 years and nearly 300k miles. That truck ran just as good as new when i sold it over a year ago. These are not your pops vehicles anymore.

When the world goes full electric I hope they keep some kinda oil change requirement for the electric cars, even though there isn’t combustion and whatnot.

“I change my electric motor grease at 50,000”………”that’s bullshit, I change mine at 30,000” and so on…..

ahhhhh......the weak minded age shamers came out......

Remember, it wasn't the young who developed and pushed the world to where it is now. Although, the young make claim to the advancements.

As far as Oil Change Interval and oil viscosity......just simply follow the Owner's Manual for YOUR truck. Typically the Owner's Manual is the funny little book in the glove compartment......might not be on your phone.

I seriously doubt if anyone on a Forum knows more than the people who developed and tested the engine.

But of course, it is your choice on the frequency you change oil,the type of oil and viscosity.

I wonder how many people think synthetic oil is some magic thing that contains no actual oil/petroleum product?

You can pull a PDF of your manual from Toyota's website. So might not be in your phone, but it very easily could be.

    I laugh at this thread.
I remember when synthetic oil was first introduced to the market just about everyone was against it even the dealers would sway you away by saying you use it and your warranty is over.
I said fuck you and I started using it and have for the last 20 years and then all of a sudden everyone was into the synthetic and now it is recommended by the dealers. What a world. By the way I am a boomer:thumbsup:

I started using synthetic oil when I seen a demo on the difference between conventional and synthetic in cold climates. Haven't looked back and haven't had a starting issue with any vehicle I owned since unless the battery died.

Used 10W30 in first vehicles and in later years recommended oil changed to 5W30. No big adjustment as last number stayed the same. Then came 0W20 synthetic. After 1000s of miles, many sleepless nights, therapy, and a few meds here and there I have finally excepted 0W20 won't destroy my engine and then last year I bought a new car for the wife. Opened the hood and spied 0W16 on the oil cap. OH! LORD! give me strength to carry on in my time of need.

When i first tried mobil synthetic back in the 70's in my toyota 4 banger it was so thin in viscosity the engine just pissed it out the tail pipe. I guess they've reformulated it a bunch of times since then to be nothing like it first came out.

FYI - "Toyota Oil" is rebranded Mobile 1, so you're getting a high quality oil from the factory as well as if you use the dealership for service.

I learned this on my own after a couple oil changes. I kept telling the service manager I wanted Mobile 1 and he'd say you bet, no problem. But on my receipt/WO it would always say Toyota synthetic. I called him on the next time and he said their oil is Mobile 1, just branded as Toyota.

Everyone’s driving needs are different. And as good as the engineers maybe in their models, it’s just not possible to predict wear under all circumstances. It is therefore stated that under certain circumstances, 10k is the max allowed and 5k is the max recommended under a different set of operating conditions. I highly doubt that anyone here will warrant your engine at 150k if you suffer serious engine sludge damage or costly repair issues that may show up after the factory warranty expires, or ten years from now because they recommended the wrong OCI.

As long as we use fuel to run errands and idle the engines to keep warm or cold, fuel dilution will occur which is a main cause of acid in oil. The fuel also contains Sulphur impurities that can react with water from combustion and condensation to form Sulphuric Acid.

Moreover, when you drain your oil, up to 20% may stay inside your engine in oil cooler, lines, nooks and crannies. And It only takes half of that to mix with the new oil to compromise or damage the new oil that just got old.

And It maybe really nice to round up all these oil treads that pop up and roll them into one giant mother of all oil threads.
All these could be divided by chapters every-time a new op oil thread shows up, as I'm sure they will lol!
