what a great place, i used to commute to the island for work at the museum there. i miss it... would be nice to get back for a trip.

many options, but my experience with Cooper AT3 LT or XLT tires is excellent in those conditions. that's my recommendation. i run the LTs in E range.

Welcome to the forum. There’s lots of good options for the type of roads you describe. Check out the Tire section here. I’d look at tires from companies like Falken, Cooper, Goodyear and even Michelin (except they don’t have as aggressive tread patterns as the others). Also, look not only for M+S rated tires but ones with a snow flake symbol.

Falken Wildpeak A/T3W are good all around tires for your application, both offroad and snow. Come in SL and E ratings depending on how much you feel they would get abused. Personally I buy only E rated tires for my Tacoma.

If you offroad or tow heavy those are good (E rated) but if youre mostly highway and random dirt roads and minimal towing its not needed. They are heavier, and not as good of a ride. Just depends on your usage and needs

I have Toyo Open Country AT III's on the way. They have a great tread for on and off-road. Have a great warranty and best of all are well priced compared to a lot of other brands. I bought 265/70R17 P-metrics for the better ride. I don't need E-rated for the extra load.

Here is a fantastic article that helped me decide whether Pmetric or LT was right for me.

I always punch holes in the sidewall when I have SL's. Other's experiences may vary lol.

Nice, how is the weather on the island? Freezing rain in the interior today - I bet a lot of people are thinking about their tires..

I think Wildpeaks or K02 would be a good choice for you year round, also the Toyo AT3 is a great option. If you are nervous about snow look into Duratracs or Toyo CT - they are a little more agressive A/T with better compound and sipes added for winter.

You're probably not interested in running a separate set of wheels with winters - I do in the interior and Blizzaks can't be beat, but we get a lot colder, snowier, and longer winter than you would see.

I'm on my second set of Falken Wildpeaks, they are great in snow and generally the exact conditions you specified.

Honestly, from all of the tire threads I have read, I would feel confident to say that any of the AT/3 tires from Falken, Toyo, or Cooper are a safe bet for your conditions (emphasis on snow/ice ability). I would shop those out by price and availability in your area. Based on supply, it's looking like a really shitty time to buy tires unfortunately.

Get some Kenda At2, or some Kenda Rts if you want something a little more aggressive! Phenomenal tires, and usually cheaper than most of the famous brands.

Love my Duratracs with the 3 peak snow designation. Sold off my dedicated winters.
