This is interesting, because previously I looked into a way to help make my cat harder to steal, but exactly like you said I heard it was also higher up in a harder position to steal so kind of laid off the theft deterant idea. Well now its back.

Yep unfortunately, the two cats up high are not really accessible it’s the two lower cats or pipes or whatever Toyota wants to call them that are being stolen. I did a decent job explaining both in my video that is somewhere located in this thread.

Oh...I thought it was for the other 2 Cats...not the ones at the front.

I'll have to check mine to verify there is 4 Cats...not just the two up front.

I spoke to the parts director at the Toyota dealership I sell to frequently. What he told me, is they are listed as "Pipes", but share the same part number coding as the cats. They are something like 1200 dollars each IIRC.

Which is why I took another look at my auto insurance deductibles and lowered comprehensive to $0. Between that and the shield I'll sleep a lot better!

I did ask if there's a discount because I have an aftermarket shield but there isn't, unfortunately.

I definitely sleep easy knowing both the taco and the 4Runner are protected by a talon garage plate. No way any crackhead will waste his time even trying.

You all do realize that the plate is going on the underside of the truck. Who the heck cares if it's painted, and once you start driving on anything by pavement it's going to be scratched to all get out in a heart beat.

    LOL!

I do sound kinda passionate about painting the plate...huh?

My roots are in LA...although I've never done any graffiti art, I do like the sound of a rattle can/spray action...lol

You might have just saved me some money too...thanks!

I reviewed the Youtube video from Eric (19cement4xor) and he does explain about the other Cats higher up near the engine...I see what he is talking about and that the Talon will protect those Cats as well.

I haven't asked my insurance company if the Cat Plate will get a discount...but I read somewhere in a reply, that their insurance doesn't give discounts.

    $1200 X 2 is a PITA expense...with a $500 deductible.

Spending $330 + $30 shipping is a small price to pay for the protection the Talon provides.

If it is any help, I sprayed my TRD Skid, which is aluminum, with 2-3 coats of Krylon Spray bedliner and all the prep I did was to wipe it with acetone beforehand. It has been going strong for 1 1/2 years now and other than minor small chips from stuff getting kicked up on road, it still looks good and is black.

With the Talon plate, are any of the holes in the crossmembers blocked? Guess water draining if it got up there isn't a real issue? I know the plate goes in-between the TRD plate and frame, doesn't make the TRD plate hang too low and look strange right? I've seen he pics and great install. Looking for your opinion.

The winglets block what is a supposed drain https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-is-this-part.739453/

but it does not seal against the frame I suppose you could drill a few holes if you where worried I did not and I don’t think it will ever be a issue. Far as where the plate slides above the TRD skid in my opinion you are worried about nothing unless you daily run over stuff and need every millimeter of ground clearance. It does make the TRD skid lower in the rear but not enough of me to care at all.
