I wonder if this is a covid related thing...They didn't have the big ticket items to sell...
I know my local Dicks is essentially Golf, athletic footwear and apparel...and then Waaay over there on the side, some kayaks and balls...
also if you recall they decided to stop selling certain models of projectile distributors...

I think its a more "lets ban guns and hunting stuff" than anything. Hunting, firearms, kayaks, fishing all were huge sellers during covid. No mask mandate on the lake or in the middle of a field.

Could be 99% of people that walk in the door aren’t buying a gun anyways. People don’t buy a gun every month like they might buy yoga pants, and I’m sure there are higher costs associated with keeping guns and ammo in stock in the store.

Well they picked a fine time to not want to sell guns.

2020 was one for the record books in gun sales, but hey who am i to tell them how to make money?

Maybe it’s just not that profitable when it’s all said and done :notsure:

Kinda like how 99% of tacoma owners dont put sliders on yet we have no less than 20 different companies that make them for us.

But, ammo is a big sales item associated with firearm sales. Not the firearm itself as you dont buy one every time you go, but you shoot at a range often, then you need ammo every time you go. Same can be said with fishing, I dont buy a new rod every time I go to the store, but I do usually buy new bait.

Possible. I’m not in retail. I’d assume there is some pricey insurance cost associated with having firearms and ammunition in stock.

10 years or so a guy crashed his car through a store in the mall at 2 am. Luckily he was drunk and passed out inside the store with only his handgun, but the police didn’t go in until 8 in the morning fearing he had access to unlimited ammunition and firearms. You never know. There are plenty of retailers that still try to stock everything, I could see why places like Dicks decide to step away from it. Not where I’d go to make my purchase anyway

I’d rather buy that stuff from a local company rather than a big box anyway.

No, it was in response to a school shooting. They said they were banning the sales assault style rifles. They also said they destroyed $5 million dollars worth of AR's but what they didn't tell you is that they moved the assault style rifles to their Field and Stream stores. They are purging firearms altogether from their Dick's stores though.
