Factory Heated Seats Failure

incorrect, they’re just blowing you off. Call corporate back and start a case file, and then they have to address you, as many others have taken the same Avenue and got the same results. There is a TSB that’s been started on this

 

When I started my case file I brought up the point of does this have to be another Mercedes incident all over in order to get your attention because a driver burned up and died in one of their heated seat issues

 

I noticed mine stoped working and looks the same, melted end plug. 2016 TRD sport.

You know it's fleet wide when they discontinue the part to fix it. Mine just stopped working, and the amp plug is burnt. So they are selling new Tacoma's with the same defective seat heating equipment.
Mine is a 2016 TRD Sport.

Mine is now burnt up as well. I have 98,000km on my 2017 TRD Sport. I do however have the Platinum ECP package with extended warranty that ends Feb 2022 or @ 100,000km. HOpefully this will still get covered under such, but this should be a recall.......

Do we have any updates what Toyota Corporate is doing or the Transportation Board in Canada are doing on this issue?

Currently on hold with Toyota Canada.....

 

Couldn't get through to Toyota Canada yesterday, however spoke to a contact at dealership and they advised they expect it will be fully covered under my extended warranty and are going to make a couple calls and get back to me tomorrow to schedule the repair (which should be 100% covered by warranty), but needs to check on what parts exactly needs to be ordered and ETA before bringing me in.

If any advise to help the rest of you like contacting Toyota Canada please let me know

Joined the club. 2016 trd off road. Able to rewire as the board wasn't fried.

 

I have a 2016 with the same issue. I have 2 burnt wires. It actually looked ok until i got the connector separated. The way you get the connector is to pull the black piece out before trying to "press and release" (pull the pin first). My truck has almost 200,000km but I will be calling toyota tomorrow and reporting the fire hazard to them. I will post pictures in a minute

 

I would suggest changing the entire assembly. I do upholstery and removing the material to replace the heating element is not a big job. I will post pictures once I change mine. Hopefully Toyota pays for the new parts.

 

Why the elements too? Really hoping to just keep running it rewired. Maybe I'm an idiot but I am able to do basic wiring. Hopefully no

 

If you already did it and it’s working fine, I wouldn’t worry too much, but if I was getting a new part, I would just change the whole thing. It’s not really any more work than cutting wires. All you need is some spray adhesive to glue the new pad in place. The seat cover is probably held in place by Velcro and plastic clips.

Why, it’s just the module that gets cooked. With FET current control it usually happens on medium/high or medium because too much current is running with enough voltage drop to overheat it. On high there’s no voltage drop and on low the current is too low to generate the heat. The elements are made to both carry the current and dissipate the heat so they don’t fail this way.

 

I’m just pointing out that changing everything is just about the same amount of work and then everything is new. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me to cut up a brand new part for nothing.

 

You’d have to open up the seats to get at the elements. Replacing the module is a few minutes. Replacing the elements several hours for an upholsterer. A different story for aftermarket elements that are just under some seat covers but not with oem.
