Lug bolt had to be cut with a torch, but he nicked the bottom of the bolt hole. Would you still trust the wheel? It's a 16x7 off an 06 Tundra but want to run it on my Taco for winter/mud tires. Think it'll crack there?IMG_3215.jpg

I personally would not run that. Not worth it. More than likely would be fine but I would always be worried.

F no. Don’t mess around with wheels and lugs. Don’t run it if it’s damaged

Personally I would pass. Stock steelies are cheap. I snagged a set a couple of years ago off of CL for $50.

I run my winter tires on them.

Gonna go against the grain and say "fuck it, I'd run that for a winter/mud set". The damage isn't at one of the spokes so the structural integrity isn't compromised.

Hell no. Trash that thing. I would expect it to crack from there. Not to mention the heat from the torch may have affected the wheel.

    Yep…
    Vehicle:
Rock Bangen', Desert Tamin', Gold Findin' Machine!
    Negative GhostRider.

The wheel is compromised where the material was torched away. A crack will develop in this area and you likely will not see it.

If you need confirmation (I don't believe shit on an Internet forum) send that picture to the wheel manufacturer.

Oh wait fuck that, I wouldn't pay money for something that's already damaged.

    Good call.

My background and profession says the torch damage has moved that wheel to the aluminum scrap bin. Its recycle material.

Wheels withstand many types of loading. Shock, torque, static, dynamic, radial and side loading.......all this is transferred to the suspension through the lug holes to the lug nuts to the studs.

OP is making a good choice going to the steelies.

Why thank you for your intelligent response. :jerkoff: You are right heat didn't do that, a torch did. Clearly you didn't read the OP post but hey what would an engineer know anyways about structural integrity. :brianr::brianr::brianr:

There are a lot of people who live their lives wondering why engineers do what they do. Youre not impressing anyone. Real world says youre over reacting.

All of the above. Id look at it from time to time to see if it starts to crack but i bet it wont and if it did, it still wouldnt fail catastrophically. That being said, i use alot of anti seize because i never want to have to torch lugnuts.
