    A thing or two...
I was going to suggest the same. Seen them used on some YouTube remodeling videos.

Looking for opinions on a good tool belt/system. I'm self employed and focus on smaller carpentry/handyman type jobs and each job is different. I usually keep a rolling tool tote handy close by with all that I need for a specific job. And I wear a small pouch that holds just a few essentials. I have have an opportunity to sub for several weeks on a commercial job and would need a good (larger) tool belt. Not a fan of suspenders and have tried several out at local big box stores and lumber yards....nada. Nobody local sells any of the higher end systems, so I'm reluctant to spend that much $$ without trying on, touching/feeling, etc. I'm pretty skinny, so none of the "one size fits all" models fits very well. Seems like you either pay north of $300 or under $100. Any input is appreciated.

I'm still on a quest for a comfortable tool belt set up , I've gone through custom leather , Diamondback belt , Diamondback vest , currently using the Occidental Leather hybrid bags , thinking of trying Akribis Leather . They all have things I like and things I hate , wish you could frankenstein them all together

I don't have a specific recommendation just but have you tried a vest? A lot of the chest rigs have Velcro or MOLLE so you can add and remove smaller bags and tool carriers for different jobs.

Had a piece of laminated MDF sitting around that I used for walking around my attic during the wiring. Also had a 3' LED fixture that I salvaged from the guest bathroom demo. Picked up some $3 brackets and a $5 sacrificial extension cord and made myself a work bench overhead shelf & task light. It felt good to reuse what I had sitting around.

Just of note about above - two interesting points.

Bamboo prices have gone WHACK. I bought 8'x2"OD. Cut each in two. But ~2" diameter varies. A LOT. So I got pretty lucky, I had one extra piece and was able to arrange them in an odd enclosed width without excess gappage. They are all touching the next pole.

Bamboo is strong in compression, fairly strong in tension, but loves to split and contains silica and other hard stuff. Does not like to be worked with power tools and countersinking is a PITA, but is a must for screws - it will split. Ordinary countersink bits hardly work and are another PITA. I figured this would be good and despite the burning stink worked GREAT. Even then the screws will not be perfectly flush, but this is fine.

    Thanks for the input.

Decided to piece together a modular system from Klein (HD online & ACME Tools). For smaller jobs I can just use the 9" pouch. Went with the following:

Thanks for the heads-up on the bamboo. We've thought of several projects we want to do with bamboo but read it can be difficult to work with. On our current step stool project I thought of ordering some timber bamboo poles and use one for the main, long pole. We have an small oak pole going through the stairs and are making a thicker sleeve, mimicking the shape of bamboo, to go over it. I thought it would be easier to get real bamboo, cut it into smaller sections so we could drill through the center and use those. Now I'm glad we didn't attempt that.

Some tools such as steel bits and such are throw away with bamboo. My carbide tips on my 10" cut-off saw blade didn't wear excessively, but they act dull now. Ugg.

It’s 18” vice 24”, nearly every home store offers them (order, not stocked) but usually not displayed. My local IKEA has one on display. The 18” holds more than you’d think. I got the Bosch 300 series, wanted the 800 series because it has “half load” but didn’t want to wait until Feb to come in.

Two years ago, when I remodeled the kitchen after buying our home, my wife demanded a large single basin sink (is normal in Japan). I told her we would loose the dishwasher, to her reply “it’s ok, I’ve never had a dishwasher. I’m ok, I’m use to washing by hand”. That was all fine but then she gave birth and a little more busy than she use to be. About 3-4 months ago (while washing dishes), unprovoked, she says “I can’t believe I told you not to install a dishwasher” lol. I forgot to mention I asked her about 4 times over a two week period while planning the design out and really tried to convince her that she will want one; I told her I’m not going to wash dishes anymore, “I really mean it”. “No, no. I don’t like the double sinks. Too small.” Anyway, so her and our daughter are visiting Grandma and Grandpa for a couple months in Japan and I’m still not washing dishes so I ate out for a week until this bad boy came in and she’s getting a surprise when she gets home

LOL! You and I... cut from the same cloth. My fiancé is Asian. Her parents have a dishwasher, but only because it was there when they bought the house. They don't use it. My first job I started out washing dishes in a pizza place, so I was conditioned early on that washing dishes sucks. Ever since I've been on my own I've had two rules; gotta have a dishwasher and if something can't be run through it (pots/pans/dishes/etc) I don't want it. When she moved in she had a shit ton of non-dishwasher compatible stuff. Guess who ends up doing most of the washing?!

We just replaced our Kenmore with a Bosch 300. World of difference regarding noise and cleaning results.

Edit to add: relatively recently I've gotten into cast iron pans and broke my rule about no non-dishwasher pans. But since you don't technically wash them, no harm no foul.
