    I believe you can deactivate the signal on the FOB. Then re-engage it when you come out to your vehicle.

    My keys are more than 10 feet away from my truck. I've forgotten to get my FOB key and come out to my truck only to turn around and go get my keys.

    Offering my support.:drunk: That's sounds fucking terrible. The feeling you get when anything has been stolen.... let alone something worth that much.

    What does insurance do now?

    Hopefully your insurance company doesn't play any games getting you into a new truck.

    Sorry to hear that man! Pretty sure someone tried to steal my truck as well as my GF's car the other night (east coast Canada). Both vehicles were flashing the anti-theft lights and would not start. One car I would consider it a non-issue, but both on the same night? Luckily my trucks a manual, so shes still there.

    PS: Your truck is probably in a shipping container from what I've heard on Tacoma thefts in Ontario/Quebec. They might catch it before a boat leaves for Europe.

    I've read the push to start ones are harder for casual thieves to steal, but are targeted more by organized car thief operations. Apparently the main way is to use a device to copy the signal sent by the key fob to gain entry, then use it to start the vehicle or reprogram through the OB port once they have access inside.

    I always disable my key fob as I lock the truck - hold down lock, then double tap unlock quickly to turn off the fob's signal. Prevents anyone copying it, and keeps it secure when you are out and about and likely can't put it in a signal-blocking container.

    I also swap two of the critical fuses for starting my own truck with defective fuses when I have to leave it parked for most of the week while driving my work truck. So even if you access and can start it, you'd still need to ID the fuses to replace after disabling the secondary alarms as well - also helps having a light-sleeping housemate who I know for a fact gets woken up when the alarm goes off and triggers the louder horns I added haha.

    It’s very easy for them if you have a smart key.

    this is the SOLE reason why i hate this smart key (more like DUMB key) system. in fact im inclined to just get a manual trans just so i can have that added security because those use a immobilizer that will only work with the provided key that must be in the ignition. hell, by this it means that even my 03 accord with immobilizer is more secure from theft than my 2021 TOYOTA. the engineers need to address this problem immediately as the smart key system constantly emits a signal to search for the truck, its what allows the smart key system to do what its supposed to and works great except for the part that the search signal can easily be duplicated with a ~124-135 khz repeater and the theif can be gone with your car in seconds. its the sole reason why i disable my key everytime i lock it (hold lock, double tap unlock) and it pisses me off i cannot disable it permanently (and no i dont want to buy some RFI sleeve thats just retarded).

    Sorry brother, I have heard that the IBD2 port is a way for pro mofos to steal vehicles. I wish someone came out with a OBD2 port plug lock. Maybe someone with an 3d printer could make and market them...anyone listening?
    I hope they find your truck unmolested!, and catch the low lifes!

    This is why I prefer my manual transmission with regular chipped key. Not that it cannot be stolen but much less likely. Neighbor had her brand new Mercedes-Benz AMG SUV stolen like it was nothing.

    Cover your visible VIN#s.

    This is usually how they do it;

    Take a pic of the VIN (this’ll give them all the info they need on specs/package and whether worth it to snatch) - quick cut a key - open door - plug in programmer - program blank fob - drive away. Less than 5 mins. More old school/mechanical than stealing signals. Usually put a minor behind the wheel to drive it anywhere.

    OBD port lock/steering wheel lock - can also help - anything that adds TIME to their work they’ll usually avoid and move on to an easier steal.
