Knox gloves are top-notch, I have a pair that are almost 10 years old and they've held up great

I just put my hands on the motor for a bit when they get cold.

Sad, indeed. Paul was a hell of a guy from all accounts. I never met him, but did see him at IOM in the early 90's. I was barely 20 and it was my first time at the TT.

After all of those years racing, he gets taken out by a car in Kent at 78 years old while riding.

I hang my hands right behind my legs and it blocks the wind AND the engine heat warms them right up haha.

Not sure if any of you have been following this one or not. Chris Hopper, an IBR finisher and long distance riding nut just wrapped up an absolutely amazing ride today in TX. Chris just became the first and likely to be the only person to ever complete 100k miles on a motorcycle in only 100 days.

    https://www.milemonstersinc.com/

You can read about him on the above site. He bought a brand new 2021 Harley Davidson Road Glide and in just 100 days has turned the odometer to over 100k miles setting a world's record and raising money for Muscular Dystrophy. He's on Facebook and has been posting pics as he went.

Granted, the lowest temps I’ve ridden in is high 30s/low 40s. It was miserable and I wouldn’t do it intentionally if I had a choice to take the truck. I was wearing unlined gloves at the time and my hands took a while to thaw out when I got to work even with “engine warming”. I’ve only done that a few time but since adding glove liners it’s much more bearable.

I have a pair of Knox Handroids laying around. Comfy gloves, but they got replaced by my Heroic SP's.

    That's amazing.

1000 mile days are a bitch. I've done Jax, FL to Islip (Long Island), NY quite a few times in just over 15 hours and that's just under a 1000 mile trip. I've done that one on everything from ZX12's to RC51's to Harley's.

My RC51's are the only bikes I've ever owned that I regret selling.

"brisk" is about as bad as it gets around here haha.

I was a bit intimidated by lane filtering at first. but now that COVID traffic has been letting up, I've just been going for it and it's almost normal to me now. What exactly is the standard procedure for when you're lane filtering and the light turns green before you're at the front? cut back into a lane where safe? I've been trying to time it where I either know I have enough time to get to the front, or I just wait in a lane if I think it will turn green before I do.

    Haven't done any splitting yet

great to hear. by all accounts their products are high quality and worth the expense.

2 inch tank lift, wire tuck, and coil relocate. :notsure:

I like the wire tuck. You’ll notice a few less miles per tank due to the tank lift BTW. The lift makes it so the fuel pickup isn’t at the lowest part of the tank anymore so it won’t get the last couple ounces before your low fuel light comes on. Small, but noticeable difference if you count miles. @fatfurious2 found that out on his 48.

Thanks for the heads up! Wouldn’t of thought of it.
So fuel light is useless now? :notsure:

I’m used to 90-100 miles per tank.

Not useless- it’ll still turn on, just turn on sooner than you’re used to. Not sure if the pickup can get that last bit of fuel before it starves the motor though so don’t mistake my post as “your light will turn on but you’re still good”. I have a habit of running my vehicles until dry for the first couple tanks because I want to know where that limit is. Of course I carry extra fuel whenever I’ve done this but that gives me a lot more confidence in the dummy light and how many miles I have before I’m in trouble.

    Got it!

Been there! I’ve gotten 15 miles of conservative riding with light on. I have a ballpark figure in my head. Maybe I’ll adjust by a few miles.

I had a 2 inch lift on my 96 Sporty and it made about 1/5 of the tank utterly useless..lol.

Actually I haven't found a 1000 mile day to be all that big of a deal. Choice of bike and gear makes a huge difference. The FJR1300 is almost the perfect vehicle for it, at least for me and a bunch of other people. I've done 4 of them so far and all of mine have been while participating in some form of long distance rally or as part of another type of tour. My g/f even rode along on 1 to get her Iron Butt Association number and she actually was talking about us continuing on and going for 1500 miles in under 36 hours. It's the stringing together of multiple 1000 mile days that I'm not sure I could handle. Would like to try for a Bunburner Gold sometime, 1500 miles in under 24 hours. Friends who have completed that one tell me they feel it's the toughest ride to pull off.
