I’ve loaded enough dirt bikes into the back of a pickup by myself to know that I would never try the same with a 1000cc street bike. Why do you want to haul the street bike? Can’t ride it to your destination?

I also agree with everyone recommending a small bike to start with.

Great post! Thx for the info. One of the fastest guys I know rides a clapped out SV650 that’s been put through the ringer. It’s so enjoyable to watch him absolutely humiliate know it alls on their liter bikes.
They say there’s no replacement for displacement, but the really fast guys know that’s not really true! There’s no replacement for skills and riding ability. Although that doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue!

Be careful with using the bed rail cleats for tie downs. They are only rated for 200 lbs. Suggest to install a pair of D-rings under the front bed bolts for tie downs.

 

Have been riding since I was a kid, used to put them in the bed, last 20 years have been doing a trailer…bikes practically load themselves…plus like having a topper for the gear bags.

 

& still not be able to U turn the harley

Yeah, theres tons of reasons to trailer a bike. Racing, dirtbikes, going to ride at a destination and don't want to ride there etc etc etc etc

I have a Harbor Freight collapse-able trailer that I want to sell and get a 5 X 10 trailer from Lowe's.

I like the camper top too.

Thanks! Had that trailer for roughly 20 years now, setup to haul 3 bikes. Great for doing dump and hardware store runs too. Probably going to switch to a 5X10 enclosed come Spring.

 

Sport bikes fit just fine, cram the front wheel to the right corner which works as a basic wheel chock so the front doesn't move on large bumps and lift the rear have it touch where the tailgate closes to left side(diagonally). It will avoid or hardly sit on tailgate keep the bike in place, don't forget to strap it down with a canyon dancer.

Or get a hitch carrier. Most people hate these, i used one for about 300 miles and the bike went no where. Total tongue weight maybe 500 with a little squat and easy enough for your mom to lead the bike.

But, how will i ever get up to highway speed with big girls on the back? He ponders. Girls want guys on cool bikes that don't know how to ride them. Dammit TacomaWorld, i'm going over to the Gixxerforum!

 

How the hell do you haul three bikes on there?? I fit my GS1250R on it and theres barely any room for more

 

Well…three enduro bikes that is, can do two ADV bikes. There are three Pingel wheel chocks. Middle one is all the way forward outer two are set about a foot and a half back. Can get 2 fuel jugs in front of the ones that are set back. Not sure if you can see from the picture, can take a better one when I get home. Put water jugs at the back to balance it out. Made my ramp into a tailgate so it doesn’t act like a parachute like those that fold down.

 

Okay, I can def see dirtbikes fitting but my GS is super wide esp with the crash bars and it would be a very tight fit but I like the tail gate

I started small, then got a 600cc GSXR, then up to an R1. Then I feel in love with track days and got pretty good. What got me to the next level?
Getting passed by even better folks on much smaller bikes. I had a buddy that would pass me mid corner on his Aprilia 250cc 2 stroke, talk about humble pie. Going back down in size and really learning how to be smooth and carry speed, rather than relying on that big motor to throw me down the next straight away. I eventually ended up with both a 600cc (for track) and kept the R1 for street.
I no longer ride, but if I did, it would be track only, these days I feel lucky making it home every day in a full sized truck.
