It was, but it has been known to lag behind, as can be seen here and here. Maybe Toyota finally stepped up their game?

That's why I included the TSB, which should be the steps you need to take.

I plan on running to the store today to grab a new drive. I'll try to follow up and see if I can get it and what steps I took.

Could you list the files included in the download? So we could check your versions against what is offered without downloading everything.

Thank you for helping make this place awesome.

The files for the Tacoma listed in both TSB's linked in this post here are what is included in the zip file.

I actually did everything from that TSB, but won't work for me, as I said, unit trying to get updates from data source, not from usb flash card. I have no idea how to force head unit read update from usb card

Thank you so much! I was several builds behind and having the issue of sound settings resetting. Applied at lunch, no issues.

Sweeeet, just updated my 19TDT1NA-EA1B unit from 1730 to 1785. Excited to see how more stable it actually is. Only time will tell.

Hopefully I'll have a better answer for you once I have a thumb drive.
I noticed that as well, and that was the most current. Toyota must have just revised the TSB and only made changes to the 2016-2018's firmware only.

Ok, I just tested it out with a 32 GB FAT32 formatted thumb drive and had no issues. I think your issue is that you're tapping on "Check for Update" when all you need to do is wait a few seconds.
    1. Start truck
    2. Press [Menu] button
    3. Select "Setup"
    4. Scroll down to and select "Software Update"
    5. Ensure your current versions are below the following:
      • Audio: <1784
      • Navigation: <1109
    6. If so, insert thumb drive into USB slot below headunit
    7. Wait a few seconds and you will see a popup saying "New software was found" for about a second and the "Check for Update" option will turn into an "Update Software" button
    8. Select the "Update Software" button
    9. Follow prompts
    10. Profit

    Ignorant idiot here.

I have done zero updates outside of whatever forced OTA updates the truck received from Toyota. I’ve had effectively zero issues with the head unit. Is there any reason to update? It appears all the updates are to solve problems, not gain content, correct?

I won’t gain additional features, EQ settings, etc. If so this has the potential to do more harm than good for me.

You don't have to be very old to be outdated..

    Jan 2021 build date
    19TDT1NA-EAPE = 1600

(OTA manual update check says no updates available)

As far as I'm aware, there are no added features from these updates. If you don't have any issues, you won't need to update. Some people like being up to date, some do it because they have issues addressed in the TSB's. Really, it's your preference. I just finished updating my 2020, and I had no issues prior.

Fair enough. I’ve got a 2016 and haven’t run into an issue yet, so I’ll run with what I’ve got rather than running down the rabbit hole of updates. Thanks for the reply!

My 2020 with an August build date had the same version as you.
