MESO Interior Chrome Delete Kit - Manual Transmission WANT...ASAP!

Signed up. I want cav blue for my white truck. Just ordered blue vent rings a minute ago.

I'm game for all of the chrome replacements- dials, shifter collar, cupholder trim, etc. I already bought the rings, I'm a guaranteed sale!

 

If a batch of Blazing Blue chrome deletes came up, Vents & MT interior, I'd be all over it...

 

I did the form when it first came out. Patiently waiting...

 

All we need for the MT is the cupholder trim & shifter collar cover. Am I right? Cause you can already get the 4x4 dial & vent rings.

I signed it. I’m only after the cup holder trim and the ring on the shifter though. I’ve got the rest.

It looks unlikely that Meso will ever make the manual trans cupholder trim. I finally took the bull by the horns and took care of it myself. This involves carefully prying off the trim, soaking it in a bleach bath for 2 weeks, and repainting in the desired color. I used Magnetic Gray Metallic to match some of the other trim on the dash.

 

I'm on the list. Seems like painting chrome would peel easy. Especially around the cup holder wich get banged up a lot.

 

You don't paint the chrome. You strip off the chrome first, then prime and paint. Stripping the chrome chemically is a slow process (Toyota chrome plating is very durable). I used a combination of strong ("outdoor") bleach and Drano. You soak the part in a bath of this stuff for at least 2 weeks, agitating the solution daily and changing it as needed. Don't breathe the fumes.

Under the chrome plating is black plastic. The bleach doesn't harm the plastic.

I did like you but I just scuffed the trim with a sanding sponge and used epoxy paint. I rarely carry drinks so I shouldn't hit it much. I mostly keep my phone or glasses in the cup holder. Plus it's so easy to remove It was just a test.

Pull up from here. I didn't get and before pics because I tend to jump right into things but I took pics when going to reinstall it.


Lift and push the e brake boot out of the way


Pull these outer tabs gently toward you with your hand/ flat head screwdriver


Finished product. I scuffed with an old sanding block.

And installed

 

The cup holder surround (the chrome trim piece) comes off without having to raise the whole center console. Just insert a thin plastic spatula under the edge and pry straight up.

 

It would still have to pry past the tabs and it's way more flex on it than I would want to try. Especially when you literally just pull up on the center console.

 

Filled it out! Hope this works! My truck is cement gray but I’m hoping for army green accents in the interior to replace the chrome. I love green!

 

I painted mine black. I just used plastidip, didn't do any type of prep on the piece, just sprayed it right on. Also used plastidip clear coat over it to make sure it doesn't chip easy. Had mine painted for the past year and still looks like when I did it. Looks way better than chrome!
