I thought that the heat was generated on a braking release not winching "in", but maybe if you were tapping the motor it was applying the brakes several times each time you stopped and that was enough to melt it?

I assumed it was from the friction of the drum spinning on the stationary winch line that did it.

Hmm, I guess that could be. I know my winch line had some kind of rubber dipped layer on the first few feet to cover the first wrap on the drum to attempt to prevent the heat from melting. I know last time I had my line spooled all the way out I noticed that little allen head set screw was all corroded and buggered up, I'm assuming it's not doing a whole lot haha. Next time I have it out I'll probably get that bubba grabber for mine

oh haha i see it now, that's the pump. Derp, had no perspective where that came from or what it was supposed to be.

Pretty sure you cruised 99 on the interstate the entire second leg of our trip to Moab once upon a time. I distinctly remember my Tacoma not enjoying the pace, and all of the weight on my rear bumper bucking around like a carriage wagon.

 to all these speed stories. I don't think I have ever taken this truck past 91-92 since the regear. RPM's are just too dang high.

If you're not bouncing off the limiter are they too high? I think I hit the limiter in 4th on my 99mph run and thought I blew it up. Last time I tried that lol. I'm not afraid of high revs though. There's a hill out here called White Bird that puts Floyd hill on I70 to shame. 3rd gear redline for what seemed like 10 miles.

I might need to make a trip east sometime. Didn't realize there are trails like this around. Thought everything was just offroad parks.
