I will see the Tacoma this coming Sunday. I already talked to the owner this afternoon and he will compile maintenance records he has of the 1997 Tacoma for sale.

Its a California based 1997 Tacoma as well. No rust on the frame.

What about the headgaskets? I'm assuming a lot of these headgasket comments on the 2.7 are due to not adjusting the valves? Not sure

The headgasket was replaced recently and the radiator was replaced in 2013 on the 1997 Tacoma pertaining to this thread.

Yeah I was asking about the 2.7 engines in general

No but I own a 2.7 engine. Just wondering about the likelihood of a blown headgasket if valve lashes are always kept to spec.

The valves in the 3RZ FE go out when the valve lash gets too tight due to wear at the valve face and seat and lose the ability to cool adequately. I personally don't think that blowing the head gasket has too much to do with the valves being worn out. Those are two different problems.

Interesting. I had it thought that the main culprit for blown headgaskets on the 2.7 3RZ, was due to valve clearances being out of spec. I wonder where I can learn more about this though

I am curious if the 2tr-fe is similar to the 3rz-fe

It is said that the block of 2TR FE is basically the same without the balance shafts also the fuel delivery is different I have both and just rebuilt my 3RZ FE and it outruns the 2TR FE. :)
