Apologies in advance for the long winded rant. :annoyed:

It certainly is worth trying, especially for how inexpensive a club-like product is. It's about adding layers of deterrents to make your vehicle less of an appealing target.

A seatbelt alone isn't guaranteed to save your life in an auto collision, neither are airbags or crumple zones or collision notification systems. But all those things together might keep you or your loved ones alive in a crash. Pointing out that one anti-theft device won't 100% protect your vehicle from being stolen is pretty silly to say the least. Like yeah, no shit a Club alone isn't 100%. Neither is locking your doors and rolling up your windows, or a tracking system, or a better aftermarket alarm, or a kill switch, or better motion lights/cameras on your house where your truck is parked or etc. Again, it's about applying all the anti-theft layers you can to make it as difficult as possible for the thief so they move on elsewhere.

Everyone knows the old cliche, "if womeone wants it bad enough they'll take it." Yes it's a realist statement but that just isnt helpful. Neither is "they'll just cut through XYZ in two seconds." If some people want to let those cliches bounce between their ears, throw their hands up and do nothing (or very little) to protect their vehicle...well good on them. They're actually doing the rest of us a favor by being an easier target. I guess it'd just be nice to read more posts that are idea generating and encouraging than discouraging and defeatist. But this is an internet message board so....yeah.

Anyway, I'm glad your truck was recovered and I hope it doesn't happen again in the future. Here's a simple tip to make the club slightly more of a deterrent, install it backward on your steering wheel. Yeah it makes it a pain in the ass to get your key in but it also makes it much more difficult for the thief to drill the lock mechanism should they gain entry to the truck.

    /end rant

Glad you got it back. Unfortunately if they want it they'll get it. And no, these vehicles with physical keys aren't really any harder to steal. They just require fewer specialty tools and are more likely to get damaged.

I’m kinda handy with Arduino and it wouldn’t be too hard to create an analog device that sets of a proximity alarm when someone sits in the drivers seat. No it’s not difficult to defeat but if the thief is completely unaware of such a homebrew device it would shock the shit out of them if they weren’t expecting it.

Personally I think homebrew ideas would work better, these thieves have the book on all the over the counter deterrents and already have a game plan. Something unexpected is what throws them off thier game, like a switch in the seat that opens up the doggy door for Fluffy to chase them down the street.

Hope you put it in the cubby in the bed and not in the cab since thieves may use jammers to block the built-in GPS locator.

It really is too bad the police take such a dim view of booby traps. People who have done something like that, either in their home or in their vehicle have been convicted of a crime with the judges all saying you cannot set up something with the intent to cause harm or kill another person regardless of the reason.

Worth it to mention that using a gun for self defense still means you broke the law on killing someone; it just happens that the law has a few exceptions to incarceration that you can claim (e.g. self defense) that may avoid you going to prison depending on the cost of your attorney.

That really sucks, hope the taco is ok!

So once it’s back at home, crawl underneath the old girl and chop your cats off. (stay with me here) It’s a nice preemptive FU to those cat theives, and some mod $!
Then when the next bastard tries to slip in and out in the dead of night, everyone around will be paying attention and want blood for waking them up.

I'm stoked that the OP is getting his truck back! However some of the talk of deterrents is cracking me up! Remember a skilled Tow Truck driver, in a gas-powered rig (the type most Repo-men use; a late model 3/4 ton gas-powered P/U truck with a wheel lift on the back) can have your ride gone in less than a minute; maybe less than that if you don't set your E-brake like 90% of the population. My guess is this is how a lot of vehicles get stolen. Tow it away then the thief(s) have all the time to make it run, strip it for parts or do whatever it is that they want to do with it.

Jesus Henry Christ....of course there's nothing a person can do about a thief utalizing a tow truck. You do realize not every vehicle theft/break in involves the use of a tow truck? Do you lock your front door when you go on vacation? Do you even close it? Why bother when a thief can just kick the damn thing in or break a window. These are the types of posts I was referring to above. Smfh.

Cool, a tow truck can steal your truck very easily. May as well just leave it unlocked with the windows down 24/7 because you know, there are no other thieves out there other than tow truck bandits. I'm sure your post wasn't alluding to not using any anti theft precautions but that's how it reads because....tow trucks.

And now I'm cracking up.

Edit: And this is from a guy who had his old Chevy pickup lifted by a tow truck years back.
