SCS has a drop in 2 hrs. I always seemed to miss them so sharing here for anyone interested.

That's awesome. Hoping to have a similar time, but I'll have to see how the timing works out. I'm doing the leg from VA to MT solo so that will dictate stops a bit...

 

So we did those three and Wall Drug. If I had to cut, I'd cut Wall Drug, then Devils Tower. We're National Park Junkies, so those have to stay, and I grew up near a tourist town and worked in retail for far too long. Wall Drug is an easy cut for time. Badlands you can drive through in an hour or two, and you don't actualy have to go to Devils Tower as you can see enough as you approach. But it is kind of cool. And that area also worked out to be a good stopping location as we got into Gardiner in about 9 hours via Wall Drugs. No stops, it's about 6 hours across 90 to Gardiner.

We kind of plan stuff like this with this philosophy: it's one of those things your so close to, so see it if you can, because it will take the same energy and time to come back and see it later. What could we do with that time spent on a second trip? Don't get home and wish you'd taken the few hours to do this stuff. It's why we packed a lot into the trip we just did - ABQ Balloon fest, Grand Canyon (north and south), Vermillion Cliffs, Monument Valley, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Winslow, and a drive by on Sedona for a trail on the way back to ABQ. And two days with time for trails and exploring. 14 days, six driving. If you email the owner they usually keep a few spares around. They did at least when I needed a 5th Ray10.

 

I would have to agree with @fatfurious2. The GFC is definitely the way to go if you’re trying to stay on the move. The set up and breakdown is less than three minutes plus it’s lite weight.

Don't get there until tomorrow. I know, they always make a big deal of any shooting down there. It was actually in Puerto Morelos about a 1/2 hour south of Cancun.
The way I figure it, there's always drug related shootings in Washington DC that don't make international news. But that doesn't make my town of Front Royal any unsafer.

will a normal stock size tire, w/ stock rim fit into the spare tire storage spot on a 2017 Tacoma ?
Soon will be replacing tires all around and thought I could save the best old tire with good tread and replace the little “donut”
spare that came w/ the truck. TIA.

 

You got a donut spare? My 2016 has a full size steelie.

 

I’m 69 with bad knees… have never got under there or needed to… just thought it was a good idea… just suspected it wasn’t the stock tire that came w/ the truck… just asking for local knowledge.

 

Yes. You should have a stock tire on a steel rim already in place.
