Is that a scratch on the gas door, or a swipe of grease? Scratch on the steering wheel? Dirt and grease is one thing and shows a lack of attention to detail. But there is simply no way that I would put up with the dealership scratching anything. Period. My first dealership experience at 5,000 miles, they tried to jump start my Tacoma because it "wouldn't start." Turns out they did not know the difference between my manual transmission and an automatic and did not press in the clutch that they did not know was there. Second time after 10,000 miles and after reading them the riot act on the first time, they left off 2 of my tire valve stem caps. I don't trust them and never will. I will get my factory oil changes and never visit them again. Stay true to yourself. No one should put up with getting their vehicle back in a worse state than they dropped it off in. They are supposed to be servicing it, not damaging it.

You can get a Tesla for the price of a Tacoma, and they have their own QC issues with paint and panel gaps.

Yeah that’s definitely bad service especially the scratch. I always inspect mine after dealer service and bring things up in the moment. I’m that guy lol

I'm a mechanic so I don't let the dealer touch my truck. But in the event I do, I definitely walk around it 20 times inspecting. Things can and do happen.

Maybe 2 days before the dealer service he was parked at whole foods. Some ladies purse accidentally scratches the fuel door as she's walking by.

When picking up a vehicle from someone, you are hyper aware/ hyper sensitive. You notice things and noises you never payed attention to before. It's in our nature.

I marked a tire with chalk, and I marked the oil cap with chalk as well. When you turn to take off
or put on the oil cap the chalk comes off, and you can follow the 'marked' tire to see if they moved.

And yea I'd be a bit miffed if they scratched or dinged or returned to me my 45k Tacoma worse off than it was.

Dealer here did a walk-around with me to see if anything was amiss, and I took time-stamped images prior as well just in case.

I'd lobby for a clean-up, wash-and wax, and scratch fix.

I keep my truck clean and pretty, and would expect it back in same or better condition.

No scratch on the gas door, just globs of grease. Truck was washed, this is all post wash. No grease on the steering wheel, it’s a cut/scuff in the leather. Wouldn’t even notice it, but it’s at about 5:00, so where I hold the wheel with my arm on the door rest. 100% wasn’t there before. I’m guessing it’s from a pocket knife clip catching on the way in.

like the one poster said, any one thing and I’d gladly walk out and forget it.

i think the thing that frustrates me most is this dealer is usually great to deal with. Usually get sat down to go over the service, any concerns, and their recommendations. This time was like taking it to jiffy lube but having to pay out the ass for it.

So, how much did OP pay for this service?? Yeah, I though so, zero, zip, nada!

OP got what op paid for right? A free service! Oh, I get it, you want to complain? Go find a reputable shop, pay them an arm, a leg, two left nuts!
And if the job is not done right you have a leg to stand on.

This is not like paying for insurance and getting nothing for it. All OP got is an offer to service the vehicle, and op got that, right?

The rest, time, aggravation, scratches...That's all free, no charge, on the house!

    Enjoy!

when i saw the 'scratch' i thought your reaction might be reasonable. after realizing that it is just a little grease, you sound like an insufferable customer to deal with.

i am so thankful to be an engineer and not someone working in a service industry. people are the worst.

This is why I could never deal with customers.

They blow up on the internet before the dealer even has a chance to respond.

This is a loose, loose for the dealer, the tech, the usher and the S/A who has to deal with the repercussions.
And for all anyone knows, the customer may have stopped somewhere else where that happened and just didn’t noticed.
So now dealers have to take pics of every vehicle that comes into the shop so they can say, maybe because even pics are not always definitive, just like the NFL replays. And yes, that's an extra (hidden) cost.
On top of that, there are customers that bring piles of chit, hoping to scam the shop because no shop, no dealer and certainly not TOYOTA want any part of this.
And this is why the customer is always right.
    Carry on
