    Hi All,

I recently put in an order for a 2022 Lunar Rock TRD Sport Double Cab Manual. This isn’t my first taco, I had a 2020 trd off-road briefly but sold it when the market started getting really hot, so the mistakes (lessons) I learned from that I put in to this new taco. I’m told to expect anywhere from 4-6 months here in Winnipeg Canada and thankfully I was able to negotiate a 2500 discount (1000 off and no dealer fee’s/Toyota shield).

On to my questions, I tried searching but the threads are multiple years old so I thought there might be new info out there.

This will actually be a work vehicle for me, so I’m looking for snow plow recommendations, I’m also thinking about putting racks in the bed, but I want these to be removable, so I’m looking for recommendations here. Ideally I don’t want to drill any holes. I already have a set of winter wheels/tires so I’m covered there.

Anyways, the reason why I chose LR trd sport was several reasons…. In Canada it’s one of the cheapest ways to get the truck now. I needed the shorter wheelbase for maneuvering in a small-ish parking lot, but my wife told me I needed the double cab in case her and the kids want to come clear the parking lot with me… happy wife, happy life, right? Colour wise I wanted Lunar Rock, Windchill Pearl, or Silver since the truck will live outside and rarely get washed so I figured any of these colours would hide dirt well. Lunar rock was my first choice so I’m happy I was able to “secure” one. Secure is in quotes because of Toyota’s bizarre ordering system. I’m going to have the front windows tinted because I hate driving in a fish-bowl and I’ll do an at-home ceramic coating.

Plowing a parking lot and Tacoma really don't go well in the same sentence. Plowing is brutal on any vehicle, much more so on a light duty Tacoma. Much better off with an old 3/4 ton domestic truck.

Is this your personal parking lot or are you plowing for money?

Personal experience: Plowing with a manual transmission is a p-i-a.

Welcome back. I think your relationship with your new Tacoma will be short lived if you are going to plow parking lots with it. Your clutch will absolutely hate it too.

^^This. Not to mention the fact that the back seat of the DC isn't really built for normal size human beings. If you're gonna be plowing and hauling around the family, I really don't think the taco is the right truck.

No buy an old beater to plow with leave the Taco alone or you will have problems especially if it is new for warranties just saying.

I should have specified that its my personal parking lot, and I will not be for hire. We don't get that much snow here anymore so I'm not super worried about damage to the truck and/or warranties.

I had a long internal dilemma with transmission and ultimately went with the manual because I figured I could put it in 4-low and 1st gear and just crawl so I don't damage anything. An old beater truck I'd still have to put a plow on and would cost the same, this way I get something I like. Plus our options for trim levels here meant I'd either have to get a limited/nightshade or a trd off-road. I didn't want either of those. The only way to get DCSB was with the manual. We have a 9 month old and another due in April. The Taco is not the daily driver or family vehicle, it is a 3rd/4th vehicle and I have many other options.

Back to the plow. You say this will be your work truck now do you really want to go to work with a plow mounted on your truck. Do you realize also you will be spending time taking off plow when no snow and then reinstalling it when it snows just saying.

Ok... maybe tacoma world isn't the best place to ask questions about the tacoma...

Like others have said in other threads, don't question me buying the specific vehicle, I'm asking for specific recommendations. If people don't have specific recommendations for my specific questions, then why comment?

You could probably purchase a Western or Myers brand of plow, if those are available to fit a midsize truck. Those two seem to be the most popular, and I would imagine the most expensive. That should be an indication of a quality product.

You would probably be better of paying someone to do your plowing, that would probably save you money in the long run. Instead of investing in a plow, and the ware and tare on a new truck.

I think investing in a 3/4 ton single cab pick up for plowing would also be a better idea.

I have never seen a Tacoma with a plow attached listed on a dealer's website or sitting on their lot.

Why would you care, or why should you care about what I plan to do with my tacoma? It isn't our Tacomas.

I've done a lot of research about Meyers, haven't really heard too much about Western.

A 3/4 tonne truck is way too big for my needs and far too expensive. Even a half tonne is too big for my needs.

I've done the math and if I buy a plow and do it myself it pays for itself after a single winter. Where I live winter is here for 5-6 months without much time above the freezing mark between November and March. Some years we get snow as early as mid-october and we've gotten snow as late as May so it can be quite unpredictable.

As a DIY'er its perfect for me. Plus, I don't want to have to wait for someone else to come and deal with my snow if I can take care of it ASAP. Keeping my parking lot clear means that there's less snow tracked through my office and keeps my elderly patients safe.

Sounds like you are better off doing your own plowing.

You could probably get a 3/4 gas engine 4wd with a snow plow prep package for close to what you would pay for a TRD Sport 4wd DCLB.

If Toyota still sold a Regular Cab 4wd, I'd say buy one of those, and install the plow of your choice.

You need a first gen tundra access cab with the 4.7L they are within an inch or two of of a Tacoma double cab in dimensions. Back seat can fit the kids and if you get a limited leather and heated seats.

That wimpy ass 3.5L and drivetrain won’t be fun.

To me it sounds like you are seeking justification for a new Tacoma when there isn’t any. 2000-2006 tundra access cab all day that engine was built for low end torque.

I added a front mounted receiver to my DCLB. I use a snowsport with the taco or my wrangler (front receiver added there as well. To clear my driveway. Quick install/deinstall. Works great for clearing my driveway.

Jesus h Christ you guys can't answer the dudes questions without inputting useless opinions can you? Thule and Yakima probably make the quickest/easiest racks for quick removal, something that bolts into the bed rails. Can't help with a plow, I just drive over/through the little bit of snow we get here
