To be honest, this taco is the only vehicle that I’ve ever had that takes forever to get to operating temps.

Maybe it’s a good thing, the cooling system must be well engineered. Well except for that plastic coolant bypass piece right at the back of the engine.

Man that’s not bad at all for a 5.6L. My taco gets about 17-18 in city traffic depending on the season. I’m happy with it though.

Same here. It’s not too bad in my opinion. I don’t have a heavy foot so that helps I’m sure.

Agreed. I live in the Lowermainland too. One thing I noticed right away about this truck was when it cooled off outside it definitely seemed to take longer to get up to operating temperature than the previous vehicles I had.

Also noticed my MPG’s dropped off once things cooled off. Truck just turned one year old last week. I neglected to check the air pressure in the tires the entire time I’ve owned it. Happened to check the centre display last week. The truck TPMS for all tires were reading about 31 psi. Just got the truck back from the dealership today after basic oil change and noticed they set the tires at 35psi. I’ll have to see if the slight increase in psi will help MPG’s

My truck is totally stock with an OEM Tonneau cover on the back. I have just ordered new Toyo Open Country AT III’s in 265/70/R/17’s. One size larger than the stock Firestone Destinations LE2’s. So I expect a few MPG’s hit right there.

Overall, I definitely noticed that the truck would get it’s best MPG’s during the summer when it’s warmer and we do more vacation highway driving. Winter usually has us just daily driving to work and short trips. At least my work commute is 30 min each way. Long enough for most vehicles to reach desired operating temperatures.

My last vehicle was a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. When I traded it in on the Tacoma last year it still had the original exhaust system including the muffler. Leading me to believe that most of the condensation was removed from the exhaust system preventing premature muffler failure.

Yep, i had a 2001 tundra for 19 years, and even it started producing heat in a much shorter period. This tacoma even shows a drop in engine temp on the gauge when stopped at a traffic light. When i start driving again it goes back up to normal. Its definitely the strangest cooling system i've had.

Holy crap. And I thought gas prices in south FL were outrageous when I filled up yesterday at $3.279/gal. I realize your fillups are in Canuk dollars but still....

Thats still .30 cheaper than here in connecticut for a gallon of gas. Its at least $50+ to fill my take now.

Our trucks also have an electric heating element that will trigger to give you heat in the cabin before the coolant warms up.

I’m getting about 12.5-14 L/100km in city traffic depending on the season. I’m running C load 265/70/17 ATs, so I’m pretty happy with the mileage. I’m running about 36-37 Psi. My truck didn’t even come with tire pressure sensors haha.

Getting a 2” lift done next Friday so we will see how it will affect the gas mileage. I don’t think it will though, maybe a little bit on the highway.
