I have a 19 OR 6MT and this morning going to work everything was fine then all of a sudden the truck started running like shit and the check engine light came on flashing. I pulled over immediately and it was idling rough. I attempted to drive probably 50ft. to pull over in a better location and it wouldn’t go over 2500rpm, it must have been in a limp mode. I shut the truck off let it sit for probably 5 seconds, started it up, there was no check engine light and it ran fine. WTF was that? Anyone else experience that before?

Sounds like some serious misfires. Really bad ones cause the flashing check engine light (see below). Why it randomly cleared is a mystery.

Try to pull codes. It could be issues with fuel, timing, etc.

Pull the codes it will tell you which cylinder was misfiring. Then check that ignition coil for any water or anything in there too.

Not a bad idea and check the spark plug is not loose. A while back, someone on this forum (lived in Alaska if I recall) chased performance issues/ghosts for weeks. Toyota factory reps replaced wiring harnesses, etc. Turns out an ignition coil had cracked and was dumping the voltage to ground but not all the time. He replaced that coil and volla.

During a cylinder misfire scenario there is high risk of getting raw fuel in the converters. Manufacturers are required to cover the converters for 8yrs/80k miles so they make the light flash to get your attention and stop driving it.

Scan if for codes and see what cylinder is missing. Move that coil to a different cylinder and see if the code follows

I’m gonna get the codes read in the morning and we’ll see from there what it was.

The code was P0303-Cylinder 3 Misfire. It’s been running fine ever since it happened so I don’t know, it’s under warranty still so maybe I’ll drop it off at the dealership and see.

Get the fuel pump recall done? Mine actually failed while waiting for the part for the recall and it stalled out going about 50 mph till I coasted it into a Walmart parking lot.

The check engine along with every other light on the dash looked like a night club when it died. About 5 min later it started with no issue and was able to drive it to the dealer the next morning without a problem.

Had a #2 misfire code latch in the OBD that they could read but they had to dig a little bit and found the fuel pressure basically dropped to nothing when it happened.

I had the fuel pump recall done probably about 2 months ago. I was going about 40mph and it just lost power quick. I only had the flashing CEL.
