I do not agree with this advice.

LBJ replacement is very easy to do if you have a basic socket set, torque wrench and pitman puller.

There are so many walkthroughs on YouTube that make it a simple follow-along.

I think there is a middle ground, depending on the circumstances. In New England, and many other locales, you have to be prepared to deal with seized bolts that like to break on these older trucks. I wouldn’t attempt the job without an impact gun and a torch. Without anything snapping, I agree that it’s a walk in the park. However, that can change in an instant.

When I did this job, on the first LBJ bolt I touched, the head snapped right off…I was using a breaker bar. An hour later, the rest of the bolt was out. I nearly broke a pair of vise grips in the process and accidentally melted a hole in my cv boot (it drooped and contacted a hot part of the knuckle after I had been heating it). Easy job can turn into a nightmare really fast. The remaining 7 bolts came out drama-free with an impact gun…live and learn.

Also, rusty cotter pins just fall apart when you try to remove them…impact wrench doesn’t mind if there is some cotter pin left; castle nuts just zip right off.

(Ive been to Nogalas, Sonora, AZ-MX - the older 90's vehicles looked brand new!)

Little to no rust.. Envy you.

Just wanted to say I have never worked on a car before until I started wrenching on my Tacoma with the help of this forum.
I recently replaced my inner and outer tie rods plus LBJ without issue and would not have been possible without this place.

Same, except rewind 6 years. Now I do work on friends and familys cars and I’ve gotten into other wrenching like jetskis and small engines.
