SE Toyota is a different animal as they get non-OEM manufacturers to build products that sometimes have Toyota or similar badging. For example Ultra wheels make all their wheels.

 

Not!!! So did Backflip make it like some say? Thats what we were talking about, keep up Joe. Not enlightened, you need some plastic protectant on your cover.

 

Dunno who makes it, just that it is marked Tacoma. Mine was treated with Cerakote about 18 months ago. Looks much better in real life than it does in photographs.

 

i know as I have the factory cover. I coated mine with evercoat and it going on 4 years old. Looks like new still.

SE Toyota is just a middle man, they can install a clazzio seat cover and call it leather seating but its not what the factory put on it.

I'm only aware of the OEM Toyota hard cover trifold that can only be spec'd on the build order and most dealers won't install it after the fact because they have to swap rails. not that they couldn't but that its not worth the hassle compared to just getting an aftermarket one that goes on just as easy.

 

Evercoat is a plastic coating used on exterior vehicle trim. It is a gel like substance and dries and flattens out. I will try and look for the bottle this week. It was given to me and I applied it and it took me about 15 minutes to put on and it dried in about 20 minutes. I did this when it was new. It's still looking like new. I have never seen it before, he owned a high-end auto sales business.

I've applying this wolfstein tonneau cover protectant from the dealer to prevent the suns ultra violet rays from aging the oem cover. After 2 hot summers the cover still looks like the pic above in post #24.

 

I just saw a hard OEM cover here on TW today it is has the Tacoma stamped on it. I guess it is only in Canada that you get OEM equipment stamped with Toyota logos. So I was right. Here is a pic that I stole from that thread to show you.

 

Picked up my truck today and it did indeed come with the stamped OEM cover. Pretty sturdy piece of kit, seems like it will last.

 

My 2022 is supposedly coming this week or next... might see if my costcoauto 15% parts coupon for the dealer can get me a the cover. Do I just mention "Hey I want the 2022 tonneau?" - skeptical its that easy haha

 

Are you in Canada. Cause I think stamped Tacoma cover only sell in Canada.

 

Question for tonneau covers whether soft or hard.
Do you find the tailgate hard to open when cover is closed. I mean a bit sticky from the cover sitting on it. Mine is very stiff to slide open.

 

When I bought my 2019 Taco, a hard shell OEM tonneau cover was $1550CAD from the dealer in British Columbia while a BackflipMX4 from a truck accessory place was $1500CAD installed and they lowered the stock bed rails.

The BackfilpMX4 flips up and secures in place giving open access to all but 6" of truck bed. The Toyota OEM tonneau cover requires complete removal of the cover in order to access the open bed, but then what do you do with the cover once it is removed?

I bought the BackflipMX4 and I am very happy with it.
