3M. The Line-X shop offered it, so I got a quote from them and it was literally half of the dealership’s price. Ironically, Line-X just farmed the work out to the local Cadillac / Mercedes / BMW dealership which is right across the street from the Toyota dealer.

I'm still waiting on my Tacoma, at 8 weeks now. Learning from you guys I know the temporary VIN has a letter in the last 6 digits.
My question, is it normal for your permanent VIN to just replace the letter with a number and keep the same VIN otherwise? When I inquired late last week they pushed my date back again and gave me a permanent VIN that was completely different than the first. Just trying to figure out if the dealer is playing games and swapping trucks around.

    Thanks for your input,
    Steve

Mine was similar but want to say 4‐5 digits/numbers changed. Obviously the model didn't and, in my case, neither did the country code

I’m also curious why you would pay extra for stuff and then take it off?

    The choice I had was:

Option 1: Order a truck with every last detail exactly the way I want it, then wait who-knows-how-many months for it to maybe, hopefully, eventually get allotted, built, and delivered.

Option 2: Take the one that the dealer already had allotted as-is… exactly the truck I wanted, plus a few accessories I didn’t want (and the dealer couldn’t or wouldn’t change the order they already had locked in)… and it was coming in a few weeks.

After reselling the tube steps, it cost me about $600 to get my truck now instead of protracting the stress and uncertainty of the car-buying process indefinitely. Totally worth it to me. Others’ perspectives may vary, of course.

I understand completely. What I don’t understand is why you removed the door edge guards, which I presume cannot be resold and which don’t interfere with anything…?

They’re a pretty thick, eye-catching plastic bulb around the edge of the door and I didn’t like the way they stood out.

…also, after my mind was already made up, I realized they were going to have to come off whether I liked them or not because they’d interfere with the Line-X coating.

@hicknorning congratulations! That's a wait! Did you get bumped to a '22? I put a deposit down a week before you and have been in mine for a couple months now.

Congrats! Our trucks were probably rolling through the assembly line at the same time; the build date for my green TRD OR was 10/4.

Had a buddy looking for an OR. I spoke with the dealer I ordered my truck from and he told me to tell him they have a TRD OR double cab AT in Super White coming in within the next 2-3 weeks. The only option on this Tacoma are the all weather mats. No tech or premium package, mrsp $39,113. My buddy already ordered an OR from a different dealer so
I thought I would put this out there for those chomping at the bit for one soon.
If anyone interested PM me and I will give you the info. It is in the rocky mountain west if anyone does not mind traveling.

Oh I've been enjoying mine since early August! Guess it's how allocations go that I put a deposit just a week ahead but got it 2mo before you. Only big difference is I got a 7568

First things, nice looking truck !
Secondly, without trying to sound too dumb, what door edge guards are you guys talking about ? As far as I know I don't have any although I will be adding some 3m protection on the doors.

I reread what he originally said about them and why he removed them and don't think it was door sill protectors. I do have those on my truck. He said they would interfere with the line x but they wouldn't unless he was doing the interior door frame. Plus he says door edge guard. I would think he would know the difference. Thanks for your input anyways !
