After years of dreaming about owning a Taco I finally pulled the trigger and got this 03 4X4 V6 with a stepside bed and 5 speed for a decent price and no frame rust! She's a little rough around the edges with the clear coat gone in a few places, but the engine and transmission are strong.

Here are my plans for mods (nothing too crazy)
    • swap out rims and tires (already have some 4runner rims I am going to paint)
    • swap the bed for a fleetside and get a camper shell
    • off road lights
    • rock sliders and rear bumper (probably DIY)IMG_20211008_172150.jpg IMG_20211008_164927.jpg

    Welcome to TW.

I'm in on all the plans, except the bed swap. That's a pretty rare configuration (at least in these parts), I like unique!

Welcome! I think Toyota only made 2000 stepside tacomas in that model year. Awesome truck!

I know the stepsides are rare, but the main use of the truck for me is camping and taking it on trails, so I will want a shell on it. The rarity of the stepsides kills when you're trying to find a used shell for cheap...

In other words - if anybody wants a stepside bed with almost no clear coat, no bumper, and a tailgate that doesn't open then let me know.

I would love to take you up on that offer. Would you consider shipping to Hawai'i? Lol

    Welcome to Tacoma World.
I seen a few step side Tacoma on my last road trip to Arizona. I don’t think it would appeal to me to purchase a new one with that option but like others mentioned I do appreciate their uniqueness.
For sure ditch those wheels and get some dirt road rubber.
