Diesel Toys did an engine swap on my 2007 FJ Cruiser. I would never
Do it again! They claim that any Volkswagen TDI diesel mechanic can easily work on their engine swap. I certainly have not found that to be the case. I live in Birmingham Alabama and have searched throughout the state and can’t find anybody willing to touch the modification. Todd also seems more concerned with protecting his so-called proprietary wiring harness than making the customer happy.

Where did Diesel toys go wrong with your wiring harness?

    Welcome aboard.

Can you put the old GASOLINE engine back in?

There was a wire that was crimped and the shop here had to spend countless hours trying to find it. The wires aren’t color coded. Todd was not helpful and told me he was the only one that knew what was done. How can anyone get their vehicle worked on if Diesel Toys won’t tell them what they did.

When you Frankenstein anything and I am assuming that installing a VW TDI engine into a FJ cruiser is a major undertaking. You will run the risk of unintended complications. In this case as many that are similar there will be serious man-hours invested into a project like yours. Nothing is cut and dry or gets dropped in.

It wasn’t “frankensteined” it was a custom job with a Toyota D4D common rail Diesel engine

Curious why this is considered a 3rd gen thread?

Also consider that when a newbie rolls in with bitch mode turned on the thread might be met with some skepticism.

So you might not be treated with full sympathy. 'Cause we sure don't know the whole story.

That said, hope it all works out for you........

"Custom Job" and "Frankensteined" aren't mutually exclusive. Just because you paid too much money for something doesn't mean they didn't do a shitty job.

A custom job is just that custom, there are no diagrams that exist to show you what wires go where and do what. Just be thankful they were willing to take it in and figured it out.

Anything that is not a factory produced combo of parts is Frankensteined. Of course some are much more than others.

Custom is just a more expensive word.

I don't know anything about Diesel Toys but it seems to me that if you have them do a custom engine install, then they would be the ones to go to sort out the problems, not another shop.

I'd be hesitant about going to a shop with the word "toys" in the name. When I saw the thread title I was wondering why Tonka was in the 3rd Gen thread.

Not surprised at all that no one wants to work on a TDI swapped Toyota. Live and learn OP
