I like what JDFab has done with their LCA pivots. The dom tubing with lots of tabs, and a simple easily replaceable steel square skid plate.

This stuff is been on my mind because I want to move to a “extreme” clearance type front bumper that loses the lower crossmember. Like the coastal off road kit. Warfab offers(offers?) something similar. Either would require a new skid set up.

It's freaking awesome. If I ever find another 2nd gen I might do a full JDfab front end on it

I have been eyeballing all their shit too. But damn so much money, you could easily go in $10k on the front end alone, which is a lot considering what I’ve already spent on this stupid ass mid travel. That’s a big chunk of change. Just seems hard to justify dropping so much for IFS upgrades.

I’m still running simple mid travel, only rear locked and feel like I haven’t hit the limit of my truck or skills just yet (don’t tell my skid plates that tho… :anonymous:). I hope a few more Moab type trips on harder shit will convince me I need more!

I spent a ton of time reading the jdfab threads on here. But have begun thinking about SASing this truck or picking up a low mileage first gen and SASing that instead. :notsure:. Plus showed the wife a couple of SASed truck pics the other day and she’s like “let’s do it!”. Mind you I have zero experience with that kind of fabbing and building skills. no better way to learn than by doing it.

Definitely pricey AF. I'm actually gonna SAS mine some day down the road hopefully lol. I'm just running OME shocks with All-Poo Expo leafs and TC UCAs right now and it hasn't disappointed me yet but I want to hit even harder trails and I'm starting to see a SAS happening in the future most likely. The future tacoma will probably get the JDfab front end as that one would be more for exploring out west but able to hit some hard trails. What I like about their stuff is the replacement of the ball joints with heim joints and also the 934 CV conversion

False, sir. Not everyone uses cross bracing or addition cross members.

That being said, if "aLl SkIdS aRe TeH sAmE" and you keep punishing yours.... Then it sounds like you need taller tires for clearance, and taller driving skills to quit hiting things :D

Well I have RCI skids that you said are rock solid. And they aren’t the ones with extra gussets and 90 bends and thicker tube risers… so sure some have a bit more protection, not RCI tho :p

Truly though I need bigger tires. I mean rollin on difficult trails in 33s is lame to the max.

And certainly I could always improve my skillz. And since I live about 5 hours from hard wheeling in Colorado and 5 hours from Moab, I plan to up those skillz. Had a chance to run 10 rated difficult trails solo this year. Hopefully I can get some of these lazy ass NM boys to get out more or meet people in UT to join. The ol get out and spot your own line bit gets old.

I'll give you a heads up if I ever come out that way. Although, my spotting skills are not the best. Just ask @WiscoPat .

I spotted myself up the rock hill at the Pipeline the first time and made it up, but I was in and out of the 4Runner about a hundred times. But, then I got stuck.. TWICE.. when others spotted me. o_O

It was definitely easier with the 295 MT's than it was on the 285 Toyos. But, that could be because I had more practice by then. :notsure:

I want 35's, but definitely not without a regear. I better start saving $$.

I hear ya. I run stupid trails in MO and TN all the time on 32s, open/open MT

RCI skids ftw (and sliders, and bumpers front/back)

Impatiently waiting for the install Wednesday. Was going to wait until then to post but like I said I’m impatient haha.

Also, story time! I posted my FedEx status last week that the wheels were out for deliver but never showed up. Status then changed to pending. 4 days later I called to see what’s up. Turns out the wheels were in fact delivered to my Walgreens fedex hub. Show up at Walgreens, they say they don’t have them. Now I start to freak out. Luckily got the name of the guy that accepted them at Walgreens from fedex. Request to talk to “Daryl” and the dumbass never checked in the wheels because he thought it was supplies to redo the carpeting at the Walgreens?!?! Like wtf!!! Guy has obviously never DIY’d anything in his life if 5 wheel boxes look like carpeting supplies. He also apparently thought a random name he didn’t recognize on the box must be the name of the project manager. Couldn’t believe the stupidity.

Hey if anyone is interested, let me know. I'm going to sell my front CBI steel skid. It's intended for a 3rd gen but fits a 2nd gen. One of the mounts is slightly bent but fits just as it should. Of course could use a bit of paint haha. I'll point out that it's never seen a winter either.

Winter is coming and my wife wants a remote start. We found one on Amazon for under $300. The neighbor said order it. Seems easy as pie to install.
    How hard can it be?

Would love to but I’ll be experiencing Chicago for my first time with my family. Not a big city kind of guy so basically I’ll just be drinking haha .

I’m gonna try and find some trails when I go to Wyoming in February but if anything happens locally between now and then let me know!
