@Sig45 any tips for drilling out and replacing 1/2 inch wood dowels? Two legs got snapped off a table that was being moved for us, and they're attached via two wood dowels in each.

Yea, I totally agree. Only thing is I don't know if I'd ever use the welder again after this project

And I've gotten spoiled at work using a 480v Miller unit. That will weld some shit!

I'm jealous. I've just got a Miller 110-220 backpack stick welder at work. And a 110 Lincoln mig.

Yea we have two actually (used to be three, but they blew up that one). It can do MIG or stick. Wonderful machine. We have one put "upstairs" set up as stick only. We also have two Fronius battery powered stick welders for quick repairs.

    And we're hiring :D

Do you have a picture? I personally would flush cut the broken dowel on each side. Then drill out to 3/8ths or 7/16ths for replacement dowel. I would be worried about drilling all the way to 1/2 inch and getting tear out when you hit the wood glue.

    Hmmm....

Are the dowels on the ends of the legs? Are they at an angle other than 90 degrees?

    pics?

And is dowel broken off in both leg and table? Like it was used as a tenon.

Yes, the dowels are broken off in both. They are inserted perpendicular to the mating face. The table is out in my shed, I'll try to remember to get pictures tomorrow.

As much as I agree, I'm not fixing it. Not until we get to the point of getting new windows.

This. Sawing them off will give a clean surface for new holes and dowels. Use wood glue. Hopefully the dowels didn't break inside the leg & table. Should be easy if the legs sit at 90 degrees. If not, you'll have to match the angle in the leg and table when you drill out new holes. To help ensure holes are aligned, use a small felt furniture pad centered on leg and use a sharpie to get ink on it. Then quickly put leg in place and you should leave a mark on the table.
