"Tacozilla" has arrived

I admire the build, and common for SEMA that it's good enough for show but that's it. It would be interesting to next do a diesel conversion, larger axles, strengthen the frame, etc., etc. I hope it just doesn't go sit outside and rot?

New Bronco has a 2.7L. We need a turbo 4L and better gearing!

 

The 93 Hi-Lux camper looks to have been a true dually configuration, proving that it can be done. The Tacozilla looks to have a widened rear track.

 

Yeah those early camper conversions were built on the one ton dually chassis. Guessing Zilla has wheel spacers to get the look.

 

I'd like to have that 1 ton dually chasis with a flatbed on it.

 

Neighbor used have one, great payload…but slooooow. Not sure why Toyota got out of the light duty commercial vehicle market in the US.

 

I understand they are wanting to bring back a nostalgic piece back to life. But, honestly, something's are better left "in he past." I thought the old one was an eye-sore, and it still looks like an eye-sore; especially with the vinyl wrap.

That's just my opinion.

 

I watched the 4-5 part build process...very intricate. I do like the appeal of the restructured engineering!

I didn't like it at first...if it's a $200K price, that leave me out! lol

I'd sooner by one of those small trailers under 3500lbs that comes with a shower/toilet and all the amenities...priced in the $30K range. I could at least try and justify that to the wife...but $200K? I don't think so!

And that is why I own a T@B teardrop camper that weighs 1700 lbs that has a two burner and refrigerator full kitchen under the clamshell rear, a shower, a traditional toilet, couch and queen size bed all in a 17 foot long heated and air conditioned shell that I can leave behind and wheel terrain the Tacozilla would suffer on. For that I have my ARB awning tent and a 7 gal Roadshower with shower enclosure.

 

It is cool looking and all, and I do dig the retro stuff… but for the price you could get something that could handle the weight and actually take it off-road.

That...right there, is what I'd be interested in!

My wife, who has never camped and has every excuse against roughing it with a RTT, might just be persuaded to get on board with this set up. Since we are already considering leaving the workforce, traveling is on the agenda.

As for the Tacozilla, it hasn't been tested with regards to going over terrain with the additional add-on. I would imagine, there may be a market who could use the Tacozilla setup that do not go off-road.

Either way, the selection is up to the user...and obviously, there are other ways to venture out with our Tacomas.

The Taco-bed Trailer they did last year for SEMA is much cooler.

 

I just read that this has a dual battery setup *under the hood*!? It's a TRD Sport model, where did they fit the second battery? (For those who don't know, the "normal" place in front of the passenger-side firewall has a brake pressure regulator mess sitting there.)

If anyone can post a picture of the engine bay I'd be very happy so I can see how they did it!
