Not really, not in my opinion anyways. When I started building this truck, if you asked me what my ideal build would be like, my truck would look like every other overlander brodozer out there. Once I used my truck and went through various iterations and found what I like and don’t like, you see what I have now. I never thought I would be smashing my truck into trees or have this much fabrication experience when I bought this truck 4 years ago. That’s all I mean by my statement.

Now with my knowledge of Tacoma’s and what I like to do, if I were to start fresh, I would definitely know what I wanted in a rig and could build appropriately.

I definitely see your side of things as well. I always said the truck would never be long travel because I had no use for it. So I spent loads of money to build a really nice above average mid travel. Come to find out, I’ve pushed it beyond what the mid travel is capable of. I’m happy for the learning experience, but really do wish I had done it the way I am now from the start. Honestly, I never expected the truck to be what it is today. And it’s about to be on a whole other level. It’s all a huge learning experience no matter what you do.

I was meaning in buying stuff like kings for mid travel, super expensive UCAs, stock length aftermarket LCAs, etc. Where I spent money that then was a bust was in the JD UCAs to go with the lower pivots when I just turned around and sold them at a loss never installing and ordering LT. Also I would of gone with 5100s vs my 6112s in the front and an AAL in the rear vs a deaver pack originally. There's a reason the front of my truck has 10+k of stuff and build waiting for it to go on. I'm collecting every last piece I need to build it the way it needs to be done at once rather than half ass then spending more to fix the half assery.

I definitely agree people need to get out and use their rigs to see what they need to me that means start off stock and then do a "cheaper" moderate build to see how far they want to take it and what type of wheeling they like or want to do or how they need/want to use their truck.

Edit: it's also the reason I got the heep and trailer and will be getting a goat fab subframe for the heep. It'll essentially be a crawler/bouncer under the skin of an XJ. But it's a hell of a build where it sits and I can get a lot of good harder seat time in it and roll a few times and learn what all that feels like with 0 cares.

    Thats where im at mentally.
I want to order the pivot but not sure if i should just get the uppers with it or go all in finally and get the lt kit. Lot of distance between the two lol.
I beat up my first gen pretty good always thought LT would be rad but spent a bunch on mt.
Had my second gen for a couple years now mostly in storage because of work but finally been able to get to use it and its been a blast. Still thought it would be cool to go LT but always said id do a proper rear first. Installed a bunch of mt stuff.
Like most people i dont even want to add it all up but like you said dont want to go backwards. Selling a pair or ucas wouldnt be too bad i suppose. But just gotta decide if I finally want to bite the $ bullet or stay mt front Lt rear for good. Id have to run my oe kings for a bit if i got the 934’s and kings gonna take a while anyway. Or skip the 934’s and wait on shocks. Such a mind fuck

What LT rear are you running? I can’t imagine LT rear and mid travel front pairs very well but I could be wrong. If you went LT front I think 934’s would be the obvious choice as different axles are required anyways.

Just pairs way better than a Lt front mt rear. Its the jd spring under. Every person ive known around me that had lt front had a stock rear and i could never fully understand it.
Yea but the +2 axels are significantly less $ but like ovrlndkull mentioned its worth doing it right the first time. And since Ive always wanted lt and i got the back dialed this would be the time. Starting a business was more time consuming than i had thought. Making more cash but seems like the govt is taking it just as quick lol. California is something else

Todays feeler ended up with a broken headlight tab, lost filler plates, and a core support/inner fender that’s cracked a ton more. The LT felt good, rear needs work now. Couldn’t go hard on it all day, the sound of self clearancing inner fenders was enough to take my foot off the pedal then just made me baby it the rest of the day. Springs broke in which made me hit the inners more often.

Besides that, the +4 kit was awesome. It’s definitely worlds difference than oem extended kings that I came from. A lot of today was just getting my nerves settled down with the huge change and not hitting dirt in 3-4 years.

I can’t wait for the inner fenders.

Gotta get some inner fenders, the rear redone and tuning before I do that lol.

Neither am I lol. I just got lucky on my one video. And ugghhhh heading to cali for thanksgiving with the truck. So anyone near cal city may spot the wife cruising it around while I’m on my bike for the first time in years (aka since the truck got faster than me on the bike)

If I recall the factory inner CV will limit travel at least 2” and I believe the oe replacement coilovers only limit it 1” with 934’s. If I’m correct on that, the choice would be pretty clear. And welcome to business life my friend. The tax rate on small business just about everywhere is off the damn charts. It definitely sucks.

They don’t make it easy. I have a lot of favorite taxes, but paying business personal property every year on desk chairs is the one the usually gets me. I try to write down the number of farts I make to see how much I can depreciate them. That and a state cottonseed oil tax leftover from the 1800’s I’m guessing. We’ve never used it in the past 100+ years that I know of. They always add tax, but rarely take them away.

You guys with health insurance and 401k plans don’t know how good you’ve got it. Add another 20k to your salary. I was quoted $2,700/month for a family plan from Blue Cross. Small business IRAs suck if anyone other than yourself contributes and it opens the door to too many prying eyes.
