Loving my 12700K so far. No problem snagging a 3080Ti for it as well. Handed the "old" PC off to the wife and her PC to our 7 YO.

Local retail has a small selection of GPUs available for full builds. There's another guy on here somewhere from Alberta and he can probably confirm that Memory Express does that. Once they filled all their preordered cards they stopped allowing preorders and now sell cards mostly for full builds only, unless they have a lot of stock. I'd rather places do that over mark them up to scalper prices. I got a 3080Ti for about 1400 USD which is, sadly, about right lol.

Can anyone recommend upgrades for my rig below. I built it 11-12 years ago and haven’t used it in a long time. I don’t see myself using it often but I would like to pickup Battlefield 1 and play at decent settings. The rig is mix of new and used parts, think I paid between $550-600 for everything including the new monitor.

Let's start with your budget and also what resolution you play at.

I was thinking the same thing, because honestly he should start a fresh build. Don't use 10 year old PSUs. Electrolytic capacitors will leak eventually and dry out slowly over time.

This was a $600 build back in the day. How much will the same cash get me today. My monitor is 1600x900.

GPU prices are jacked so your not going to bet a worthwhile one IMO.

Sadly about the only thing reusable from your current build is the case. like Sterdog mentioned you dont really want to keep using your PSU for that long.

$600 is a bit limited but you could do it. Your resolution isnt super demanding thankfully.

You could go with something like

    AMD Ryzen 5600G - $240
    https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-5-5600g-ryzen-5-5000-g-series/p/N82E16819113683?quicklink=true

    A B550 motherboard (just a random link to one not a recommendation) - $100
    https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-b55...0M DS3H-_-13-145-210-_-Product&quicklink=true

Some DDR4 memory (again just a random set could change things up)...this is a 2x16gb kit for 32gb -$100
    https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb...820232091?Item=N82E16820232091&quicklink=true

    Then get a PSU...figure ~$75 for a good one.

That puts you right around $515

The Ryzen 5600g has built in graphics so you would use it as your "gpu" pretty much.

One thing you did dont mention is your storage. Being a 11-12 year old system I would assume you have an old mechanical drive. So I would upgrade that to a NVME drive. lots of options out there depending on how big of one you want. Figure ~100 for one.

@specter208 best I could come up with on PC part picker that includes a gaming GPU. I have not vetted any of these parts. More of just a way to show you what a low budget build costs today. Two years ago you could of had the same GPU for half the price. If you reuse your case you could be in it for just under $700 depending on sales tax where you live.

@907rx7 Thanks for your suggestions.I’ve been out of the PC games for a while. I have to relearn a lot of the technical aspects of this hobby. Btw my PC was very lightly used, played mostly older less demanding games like Battlefront 2, Republic Commando, COD 2&4. It hasn’t been powered on in atleast 2 years. You still think Ultra LSP 750w PSU should go?

1030 is bare minimum to get into gaming but it might be better idea to get the 5600g APU. 1030 is overpriced for what it is but its $105 which is not that bad for this market, its really a sub $75 GPU.

Time to retire the PC or maybe give it someone for free or dirt cheap.

GPU market is so bad that the only decent GPUs they sell at Micro Center are 1030 at around $110 or splurging and getting a 6600 or 6600xt at $400-$600. Everything else is completely overpriced and hard to walk in and buy.

Subtracting 16 GB Ballistix from the current setup and adding 64 GB Ballistix. The 16 GB will go into the Precision workstation Minecraft server to put it at 80 GB, and still will have dual Xeon processors. I would like to get it to 256 GB eventually. That is the most the MB supports.

Probably about 32 GB of the new RAM in my desktop setup will go to new Linux and Windows VMs. Kind of disappointed I can only go to 64 GB RAM on the MB...

Also adding a new Hyper 212 cooler. I really liked the last one I had, and the current Corsair cooler just takes up too much room over the RAM slots, blocking two slots unless I go low profile RAM, so going to 64 GB RAM unfortunately requires a new cooler.

It is so odd considering I have servers running terabytes of RAM in multiple datacenters for work, and I am stressing over how to manage 32 - 64 GB at home. :)
