Lola and our new kitten "Cupcake". She seems to be saying "My dog".

It's amazing how gentle she is considering the kitten is the size of her nose! She'll play rough with me (biting, barking, growling, jumping around, pawing at me), but no one else. And she's always aware of the baby crawling around and the other kids. We can be going full on and she still avoids stepping on them and jumps over them. :D Kinda funny on hard wood floors.

Yeah, she was a rescue dog. She was too emaciated to feed her pups or shake the flies off her ears when rescued. We're thinking maybe her ears were tagged too since she was sort of a puppy mill. Fucking people in the area we got her used pitbulls and akitas as status symbols, and didn't give a shit how they were treated.

At least she's happy now with kids and cats to play with, and a big back yard to run in. She still has abandonment issues though. Like when we got back from shopping today she got so excited I thought she'd piss on the floor (she's like that EVERY time we get back, even if it's only 10 minutes). I also found out she'd pawed open the inside door to our mud room, and tried getting the outer door open the day we went shopping, had lunch with friends, and hung out at their house for a while.

It's kinda funny though, she seems protective of the kitten! She used to quietly impose herself between new people and our 1yr old. Now she doesn't really do that anymore, but she's started getting between the kitten and other cats when they growl/hiss at her. LOL The other cats hiss/growl, then have this "WTF?" look on their faces when the dog nonchalantly wanders over with her nose at their eye level.

They remember! They remember better than we give them credit for I think. My Mom's dog (sheltie) goes bonkers every time I or my older son go to her house (sometimes with a month or more in between), jumping up and down, all exited, whining and yipping. He doesn't do that for everyone--just me and the eleven year old (and my Mom). We can only assume that he remembers that we were there when she went to pick him up at six weeks old. My son and I took turns holding him on the ride home (two hours) and stayed a bit while he got acclimated at her house. We've never actually been a constant part of his "home," just in and out, but still he treats us like we are. I always make a big deal out of him when he does that, but sometimes my son (being 11 and all) just goes past him to get to whatever he's trying to get to, and the look on Bailey's face is heartbreaking! He looks after him with this miserable "but I LOVE you!" face that's absolutely devastating to see! Now the last thing I say to him when we get there is "Now don't ignore Bailey!" because I can't handle that look! Heck, my dog doesn't get that exited when I get home! It's a real cure for depression tho...lol!

I bet those two will be inseparable later on in life. My Zoe was like that with my Mom's old cat. When the cat died, Zoe was depressed for over a month - no one to play with.
