    Negatory, sir.

My 84 C10 (6.2L oil burner!) was a bitch and half to drive. Loved every second of it.

95 Pathfinder was easily the best stick I've driven. Smooth, easy clutch, effortless shifting, drove better than new at 280,000+ miles

06 LJ was fun, it lugged well, very forgiving, excellent snowmobile.

2018 Taco Sport is decent, once I did the ADM and OVTune it was much better. Not my favorite, but I've grown to like it's quirks. Looking forward to a regear and 33s

2017 Frontier Pro4X has a short throw on both the stick and clutch. Very different feel from the Taco, almost sporty. And this thing.... Is fast. Like damn, C&D weren't lying when they clocked it as being faster than a Ram TRX. I believe them.

Miata guys are generally a weird group in my experience. I’d imagine that guy thinks he’s one of the best drivers around and lets everyone know it.

I had to think about my MT list for a while, been through a number of sports cars in my time…

1988 BMW M3 (still have, learned to drive manual on this one)
    1997 BMW M3 coupe
    2006 Pontiac GTO
    1984 BMW M635CSi (still have)
2003.5 BMW M3 coupe (miss this one so much, totaled early last year due to someone making a blind illegal left turn right in front of me…)
    A couple different BMW 2002s
2016 BMW M2 (hated this car, got it to replace the E46 M3 and I sold it within 6 months of purchasing)
    2018 Tacoma OR (still have)

My point is made with your post. You see each MT for it's worth and still enjoyed them... in a sense they are all equal. Where the Miata idiot doesn't, he only thinks his could possibly be enjoyable. To me that makes the person the variable, but to each there own I guess.

I might as well jump in a list them

Learned on a '91 Audi quattro

    85 S10
92 Nissan Sentra with the SR20DE - this one was super fun and got a beating
    98 VW Jetta K2 - Tboned (RIP)
98 VW Jetta Wolfsburg - amazing since I would get blown away by minivans, super short throws and loved it
05 Tacoma SR5 - My favorite vehicle so far
17 Tacoma TRDOR - Off road family hauler.

Well, he has a point. I've driven some eastern block MT's where the transmission felt like a baseball bat shoved into a bag of coconuts. Finding the right gear took some patience. Now, I still enjoyed the hell out of driving them - but the MT wasn't anything like a crisp, short throw, sporty-car.

I suspect your Miata buddy assumes that all pickups have MT's like my dads 1973 Chevy C15 with a shift lever that was longer than my leg and the throw from second to third; your hand would move from the bench seat to the dashboard.

Yeah and sometimes the clutch would decide to fuck off and you just had to rev match to get it in gear..... Even if the truck had been dealership certified and in perfect working order.

Man I miss those square bodies.

    Man, I sure don't. haha...

But you are correct in that those old farm-trucks taught me how to "row gears" without the clutch. You only needed the clutch to get moving and even if that didn't work, you just put the truck into gear and turned the starter motor to get the truck rolling.

Hell the 84 Diesel I had hated starting with the clutch in "just the right spot" but that mofo would pop start if you sneezed while turning the key.

That would be awesome, I love the way the truck feels when you hit 3k, it's like a completely different vehicle. Driving in traffic 1st gear can drive me nuts sometimes.

Does it help much with mileage? Thinking about buying the tuner pack and a tune so I can flash it on and off myself. 100,000 mile warranty and all.

Mileage depends, some people get 2-3 better, some don't. Hard to tell since everyone is running modded.

As far as warranty goes, dealership has literally zero way to tell if the truck has been tuned, unless of the techs has OVTune stuff themselves to plug in check (which would be obnoxious and unnecessary). That being said, if/whenever the dealership flashes a new ECU update, you'll want to reflash your tune. Not a big deal esp once you've done it once or twice.

Every Toyota 4x4 I have owned going back to 1985 have all been MT. Same with my 1994 Defender 90. And all my non trucks. Have not owned an AT since my high school days when I bought my first car from my sisters BF, a 1966 Chevy Malibu SS which i converted over to a 4 speed.

I got some highway miles in today pickup of a new pair of leafs (leaves?) and I couldn’t help but wonder why the f 6th is so close to 5th in our transmission?

I mean, it’s nearly irrelevant whether you’re in 5th or 6th past 60 mph or so unless you’re climbing or towing.

It seems like a bigger jump would work fine really, for flat cruising or 85+ (yeah I know that’s not legal) where you’d maybe like a little bit lower rpm.

I dunno, just my thoughts of the day. Probably need bigger tires really.
