Would you buy it? I love it, but even if I had $18K I don't think I would...

Obviously I couldn't get a look at the frame, but I'm guessing that this is not originally a Maine truck based on its appearance...

Yesterday I was at a car show and came across a 1994 Toyota pickup; Under the hood was a sticker that said it was emissions-legal in every state but California and any state that as of MY1994 had adopted California's draconian emissions standard (Will post a pic of the emission control sticker from that truck later)...

I remember reading somewhere on TW that older 1st Gen Tacos sold new in California had a different exhaust system than those sold on the other 49 states. Obviously if some registered a California Taco in another state that required annual or biannual emissions testing, that truck would have no problems...

However, what I am wondering is whether or not a 1995-2000ish Taco purchased new in a state like Nebraska or South Carolina would have any problems getting through California smog testing with it's 49-state "federal" exhaust/catalytic converter?

The sticker under the hood of my 2010 states that my truck would pass smog in California with no issues...

Yes, it just means that when it was new it was not allowed to be sold in CA. You can register it here and smog it though, it will just be smogged under different parameters than a 50 state emissions vehicle.

I don't know about other makes/models but Tacomas were all made to be 50 state compliant starting sometime in the late 90s.

    :amen:

My uncle who lives there has a 1977 VW Westfalia that in every state (including the ones that have emissions testing) would be eligible for antique tags and thus exempt from emissions testing in the states that require it; Not in California!

Because my uncle's hippie bus is newer than 1975, it has to pass smog; It was originally fuel injected, but a previous owner blew the engine and replaced it with a carbureted engine from an older bus. The engine runs great and doesn't pollute anymore than it's supposed to, but it doesn't meet CA emissions standards for 1977 and thus won't pass smog; My uncle registered it as an antique vehicle at his brother's house in Texas rather than bring it into compliance with California! :luvya:

Now I get it; Hopefully Teslas and Rivians will become more affordable...

In the mean time, I'm happy fueling my truck with recycled dinosaurs!

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
My Tacoma (2000) has the California emission Package so it was after 2000 that it all became one emission.

My truck was sold in New Jersey .

Were they shipped by Rail I can not see trucks coming by boat by truck to expensive

No idea; Why would they come by boat to New Jersey if they were built in California?

Those Vanagons were nice. Drove one for work quite a few years ago. Only thing is they're very top heavy; imagine even moreso with the Westfalia. Not the greatest on snow or ice.

Not a Vanagon, an original air-cooled VW Bus! He's got a 1971 bus and a 1977 Westfalia camper!
