Took mine in for the light recall as I noticed moisture and was advised the lens was cracked so no replacement work for me. I have no recollection of anything hitting the lens but I doubt they cracked it just to get out of doing a replacement. So I had them put on their trim repair figuring I would get the cracked sealed. Well, unfortunately I have tried a couple of ways and I have not been able to seal the crack and I see moisture by the crack. Has anyone had to remove the new trim repair piece to actually replace the light? I am capable of doing the work myself and will since they already quoted my $550 to do the work. That price is was why I just had them install their trim repair piece. I assume a hair dryer will help soften things up before I attempt to remove it but any input on this would be appreciated.

Dental floss or fishing line to help break the sealant free. I think they use 3M 4200, which is a more aggressive sealant. Might require a product like 3M adhesive cleaner to remove the residue.

Irregardless of if the lens is broke or not the defect still exists and Toyota is responsible for fixing it. I would have raised hell until they did.

I brought my 2019 SR5 in for the 40K service and 3rd brake light fix. The service writer referred to it as a recall. I commented that Toyota calls it a "Service Campaign" and he said "It's still a recall." I thought that was pretty funny. He also said that they've seen a fair number of them and it was about time that Toyota decided to address the problem. He said that customers that had paid for the repairs should be eligible for reimbursement from Toyota.

We also talked about the shortage of new vehicles. He said it's going to get worse and he thinks that much of the sales staff will quit because soon they won't have much to sell. As it is, the lot has mostly used cars and trucks.

That auto correct is annoying. Was saying hard to believe they would do the recall and leave a dead bug inside.

I could be wrong but I think if it hasn't leaked already they don't remove it, just seal it in place.

Correct. Mine didn't leak so it got the repair, not a new CHMSL.

Funny, last week I got the letter for this and Friday I went to my dealer to get this over with.
It said if there was no leak they will change the gasket and if it leaked they’d replace anything that was damaged.

The new gasket is very different.
I haven’t gone through a car wash yet to test it.

No, just the clothes hooks and then slightly pulled down on the headliner and reached it to loosen and replace the nuts. A bit of a pain, but not as much as removing the whole headliner.

i think if it did not leak - they would just use the silicon around the light and then there is a bezel that goes around the light to hide the mess so it looks clean.

    does anyone know??

Does anyone have a 2019 that has leaked?

I don't drive in the rain much and truck is garaged.

The reason I ask is I want to wait to have this done since I have a shell that would be a pain to remove.

As a side, any techs in the SF Bay area that can do this for pay with shell on outside of dealership since I know they will not? I don't care about the warranty just would hate to have it leak.

This is also how I feel. I initially took it to the dealership but they said my Meso hexrack would have to be removed so they could inspect the light. I assured them that if my truck was leaking I’d know it but they said the headliner had to be dropped in the rear for an inspection and they couldn’t install the trim ring without inspecting it first. I left and ordered the part myself. I’ll do a better job anyhow.

Did they tell you which part to order....I’m wondering what it looks like before it’s installed.

It looks like it’s more than just a surround, the light is sitting on top of it.

They silicone around the factory light and use a stick on trim ring. The trim ring does not require the light to be removed.
