Digging the overland are shell. Like the offset of the black and white. Still gives it that truck look

 

On stock suspension with 285 75 16 and a -20 offset you will rub a decent amount even with no mudflaps. You would need a 3 inch lift to avoid issues.

I have 285 75 16s with a similar spaced wheel with a 2 inch lift. With a regular OEM spaced wheel I didn't rub at all even with mud flaps. I added a similar -20 offset (wheel spacer equivalent) with mudflaps and rub sometimes when cutting the wheel. Nothing major. Im sure my mud flaps aren't helping.. You'd need a 3 inch lift to be safe.

So, to be clear, you would rub with no lift, stock wheels and 285/75/16 tires?

Wow this is more than I expected haha, thanks for the info. To bypass some of the hassle, is it possible to 275/70/16 with my stock suspension?

no space between trail and tacoma. Lots of good info. But with that offset wheel I think you will rub regardless without a lift of some kind.

This setup *definitely* requires some trim work inside the front wheel well, including a CMC, which I’m having done tomorrow.

Check out the post I just made. From my understanding (somebody please correct me if I’m wrong), the more you push the wheels out, the more likely you are to rub. Stock offset for the ‘16 TRD Sport wheels is +25 for the non-TRD wheels, +4 if you have the TRD wheels. I just had 0 offset wheels installed with 285/70/17 tires and a 3” lift. Definitely rubs and requires a CMC. So I would imagine a -20 will rub even worse. The good news: CMCs are cheap. The bad news (or expensive news, rather) : you’ll still almost 100% need a lift for that to work.

Follow up post to the pics I posted a couple days ago… CMC complete. Absolutely no rubbing now. There’s really no reason NOT to get it done if you want bigger tires.

I also replaced the splash guards with some Rad Rubber Design ones. Much beefier.

 

285/75r16 Cooper AT3 XLT. Bilstein 5100s. OME-885 and 1.5” taper rear blocks…

 

Just installed Bilstein 6112s and SPC upper control arms on the front and Bilstein 5100s and 1.5" Icon add-a-leaf in the rear. Running 285/70R17 BFG All Terrain KO2s. No rubbing even at full lock both turning directions.

The truck actually came with this wheel and tire combo. I would have chosen a gold or bronze colour for the wheels. I may have them powder coated in the spring. I have a friend that is getting setup to do powder coating.

I have a set of 285/70r17 ko2's on method wheels 0 offset we use for specific trips, mainly in the snow or less aggressive trails but I run 265/75r16 on the stock rims 90% of the time, mainly saves on fuel better freeway driving and tucks really well when on dry rocky trails at full flex, thats just my preference. Heres some pictures of the 265s
