Simply stated, I really enjoy the remote start features on my other autos. My 2012 SR5 Prerunner does not have this feature. So anyone know if this is possible to add this OEM feature if your truck was not equipped from the factory?

If so, what's the process, proper part numbers, etc? I was surprised to not find information in this regard when using TM search. Are there OEM kits, wiring harnesses, remotes that include the needed remote start button, etc...?

2nd gen Tacoma's never had an option for remote start from the factory, unfortunately your only option is an aftermarket alarm/remote start.

Well, this was a short-lived thread. LOL, I don't care enough about it to go further than a plug-and-play effort. I would be interested in hearing of anything AM that is this simple yet reliable.

12 Volt Solutions makes a plug and play remote start for 2nd gens, I'm not sure about quality or reliability but I see it discussed on here from time to time.

I did the accessorides version. Plug n play. Easy install.

Did it because I like the fob better than the 12v solutions one.

I have the 12 Volt on my 2014 limited for 2 years now. Installed it myself and have had not a single issue. I use it regularly.

I went with the Accessorides myself last winter for the same reason above. I like the FOB better. Install took maybe an hour to 2hrs due to me taking my time and it was in the middle of Dec and freezing in my garage. Truly plug and play and have had no issues with it.

You order based off the type of key you have as well..

IF you have the DOT key, its one kit and it you have the G key its another. My truck is a 2010 so i had to use the DOT key kit for a 2009 model.

Their site is pretty intuitive and straight forward. Enter Make and Model and you will be good.

So do you have the trunk button operating a POPLOCK on your tailgate? And do they make a Fob with proper truck buttons? Referring to the car trunk button that is. Not I deal killer but it would be complete if there was a truck tailgate in motion in place of the car trunk etc.

If both are of equal quality and function, I now understand why it has come down to Fob design to make a choice one over the other. What does the 12V one look like?

MY gosh! There is certainly a price difference! One less than $300 the other on sale for $540. Crap is there anything to justify the difference? If it is as you guys say, and that is that they both work perfectly. How would 12V Salotions justify almost Dbl. the price?

No i dont have additional features to open a pop lock. I dont think its available specifically for that. It unlocks the doors so if the pop-lock is tied to your doorlocks, it will unlock when you unlock the doors. There is no other FOB choice but with some relays and time, you could probably separate the function like that but it wouldnt be a plug n play kit then.
