Why did the guy in the video remove all four 10mm bolts to take the tail light out? You should only have to remove the second from the top and the bottom one.

You shouldn't have to. Should only need to back out the second bolt from the top and the one on the very bottom. The video shows the guy taking out all 4, and I was wondering why. If he doesn't even know how to remove the tail light then I would take the rest of his review with a grain of salt.

I actually like the look of the new tail lights, I just don't like the $600 price tag. I know I know, you get what you pay for, but still...LOL

Meso actually amazes me. I've never seen a company survive long term with 75% of their products out of stock at any given point in time, yet he has a loyal following willing to wait weeks for stuff to become available. Amazing what good customer service and quality products in a niche market will overcome. My hat's off to him.

 

Guess I was smart when I selfishly ordered a set for myself, then only posted when they still showed as in stock after that. They also had the 2 color map and dome lights. Which I also ordered. Both of those showed as in stock right before I hit post on this.

With Tundra's, it's that damn 921 bulb that makes it hard to do a total tail, or anything requiring dual brightness out of that upper well. There is a way around that that would allow the use of pretty much any bulb, but it requires a PWM dimmer and that has to be made waterproof, which jacks up time and material on the harness. It's a vicious cycle.... It's the same issue with the other options on the Tundras. The "turn-as-tail" Option B and C. They still rely on that VLED 921 V6 Triton.

With the Meso lights on the Tacoma's, the only thing that is really required to swap is the 921. But unlike the Tundra, our 921 is the reverse, so it gets swapped to a switchback for that amber turn signal action. The stage 1 utilize a custom made (by or for Meso) 921, but you could get the ones sold by VLED for the Stage 2 V2 that is a direct plug in and make a harness if one were so inclined....

The option I am going for is going to be a full C tail light. It will keep the reverse where it is, and function the same. But turn and brake will both use the upper and lower of the C, with turn signals getting priority. It should be able to use the standard halogens if you really wanted (the Meso's can too in theory, I should qualify both with the disclaimer that I am assuming it will be ok amperage wise), but give a fuller looking turn and brake. I am just not a big amber guy. This will be close to the Option B of the Tundras in functionality if you've been following those. I am sure @memario1214 will come up with a better name than "Option B" though....

I’m not much of an amber guy either but I do like it as a turn as long as there isn’t an amber lens. Don’t like the non use visible look… of that makes sense

Got these in today. The map and dome lights are great. Will install the Total Tails when I have a little more time.

let us know how the tails work out? I saw a post yesterday someone had the hyper flashing issue with their SR.
