It’s definitely not inexpensive but, truth be told, many folks who have many of these items don’t really need all of them, and nobody needs all this stuff to overland. It all comes down to how luxurious one wants to be, what conditions one can readily tolerate, what one deems necessary to eat while camping, etc. A lot of the more expensive things listed above are very nice but they don’t necessarily offer an end game that justifies the price difference vs. less expensive options.

Hell, half the videos on YouTube of overlanders are just dudes showing off gear they bought and will never need because they have to fill up the storage they bought and also don’t need.

A perfect recent example for me is rooftop storage cases. I considered a couple Roam 83L cases but, while they’re great quality, and in addition to them being so long they’d block my sunroof if mounted the way I need to mount them, they just weren’t worth the extra $500+ I would have spent on them vs. my Pelican Vault cases. They’re great, but for what I need them to do, they weren’t going to do the job $500+ better and they’re simply too long as well.

But of course some childish fool on here just had to mouth off that I must be poor because I opted to not buy the more expensive Roam cases that he’d bought. Because spending more cash to buy something that’s useless to me because it’s too large to work for my application is super intelligent.

Jay Leno's leather conditioner is another great non-greasy solution. It's currently my favorite and can be had for about $13 at Walmart.

Compared to some places, sure. But $4 a gallon is expensive anywhere.

Thank you for the reply. And it’s just shows the immaturity of some of the members if that’s their thinking

That red trim is a million times better than stock. Makes the interiors of these tacomas so muck nicer! Love the stitching on the steering wheel too

PFL Customs roof rack, Body Armor Hi-line bumper. X20 Gen 2 Smittybilt winch, PFL Customs bed rack. Dirt bound rack supports.
I see this a lot and in the overland world I can say with confidence more money does not mean more better. The Overlander world has been hit hard with mark up. A simple overland rack made from mild steel and has just the basics will run between $500 and +$1500. Also I love my pelican cases on of the best things about them is if I ever need replacement parts any surplus store will have them for cheap. RTT have been hit hard as well I bought my first one for $600 that same tent now is over $1300 and nothing has changed.

For me I have learned over the years on what I need and don't need. No one makes a half shell with a quarter box and dog kennels so I am in the process of building my own. I wanted a light weight roof rack capable of holding over 500 pounds so I had to make one of those to. I love the overland setups cause even though a lot are the same most have some very awesome and custom add ons. I recommend if you are semi handy get a basic cheap set up and customize it to the way you want it. Also something people don't look at very often is any small town welding shop usually doesn't mind welding on a bar of cutting out a molle panel on there cnc for 1/8 the cost of buying a name brand online. hell I b I have made a few pieces for some of the locals here is California. any ways cause now im rambling just get what you want and remember if its expensive doesn't mean its better.

Again, I appreciate the reply. Yeah, the fab stuff to add on to an existing seems like a good idea. I have a welder and plasma cutter and cnc machine so I can make some little things happen if I’m bored. Good looking dogs too! Have fun

If you are looking to save money, or you really need to save money, definitely don't overlook Craigslist or FB Marketplace. A year or two ago, I would never see a roof top tent for sale there where I live but now I see a lot of them -- maybe a dozen at a time. Have a buddy who wants to put one on top of his Range Rover but doesn't want to pay the full cost out of principle. Showed him a few that could be easily had for well under $1K and barely used. Add a new mattress and you are good to go ...

    Worth considering, for sure.

I'm no overlander, I recently did a video on what I take out with me on the trails for several days recovery & tools. I will have a part 2 for camping stuff.

Its accessories for dudes half the time, i agree. Get a rooftop tent, use it once in the driveway, then drive around with it on top of the truck for a year to be cool. The world overlanding is goofy to me. You mean a road trip? Go buy some king shocks for street driving only, because you need those.....
