If that is your thought process you'd be foolish not to replace all of them all at once while the driveshaft is out. The rear most joint will go out first often because its most exposed to the elements, the others are not far behind.

With a ball joint press and a bearing puller (all available for free tool rentals from most auto parts stores) you could have everything replaced in less than 4 hours going slow n steady.

Like everyone has stated, do all 3 u joints and carrier bearing on the rear, and likely do the front driveshaft as well. (could not imagine the severity to major components if a front driveshaft failed... or really any other u joint than the one you had fail) You had the ABSOLUTE BEST POSSIBLE OUTCOME of a ujoint failure. Any other joint would of been magnitudes worse.

I once saw where a 1st gen had a u-joint break, driveshaft punctured the gas tank then caught fire when the sparks hit the fuel as the driveshaft dragged along the road. Could def have been worse lol

Would be an epic burnout tho. Front wheel drive with the parking brake locking the rear :D:D

OP Im not sure how their shipping is to Canada (if at all) but Ive had good luck with with drivetrainamerica.

    Can't break this driveshaft

Chromemolly tube , Billet steel yokes and Spicer 1410 series u joints . This is in my Camaro and capable of supporting over 1500hp

I used to run this style driveshaft but with Spicer 1350 u joints in my Jeep rock crawlers

Would I be an idiot to TIG weld in a new piece of steel into the flange yoke? I've only got 165 amp welder so I'd be worried about getting enough weld penetration for the kind of torque that the part is subjected to. I've tried about a dozen parts suppliers, and even Toyota won't sell me just the flange yoke. They want to sell me the entire drivetrain for over $1K. Even the drivetrains at third party suppliers which are probably not OEM are over $1K.

Can't seem to find anywhere that will ship to Canada fast enough. Winter is coming soon, which means road salt, and I really don't want that getting all in the bits where I've removed the propeller shaft. I'm currently driving with 4wd essentially as fwd while I try and get the part. No luck with junkyards either.

Suggest to keep hunting. Any salvage yards in your area???

The yoke is a casting. It likely won't weld very well. If you do manage to stick it together, it will be weak in that area. This, at best, would be a temporary band-aide.

To further complicate the "weld fix" is getting the yoke machined to mate with the U-joint, snap ring groove and the proper press fit and alignment.

Do you have any Driveline repair shops in your area that can build you a new driveshaft ??

Also these shops will have the parts you need to repair your driveshaft if you want to rebuild it yourself

    No... just .... NO.

Keep calling around at different junk yards. I believe even 1st gens used the same size rear flange yokes, should be able to find something.

Looks like a failure from lack of grease.....Any damage occur to the actual shaft when it let loose?
If so just order up a Tom Woods drive shaft, be cheaper than OEM and come with u-joints already installed..... bought one for my '05 TRD OR AC years ago...

I've got a freshly rebuilt (all new universals, new center carrier bearing, balanced) driveshaft in my garage (replaced it with a Woods one piece) My truck is a 2015 DCSB with an auto though... no clue if they are the same. But I would sell it and ship it to Canadia for you if its what you need. Shoot me a PM

My issue is the shipping time from US to Canada, especially with Covid delays. On top of the shipping time, most times I order things from the states they get stuck being inspected in customs from between a few weeks to a few months just sitting there... So if I ordered that part from eBay, or bought your rebuilt driveshaft, I might have it as late as January which is no good for me.

Just a thought, how close are you to a border town? Maybe a weekend trip south and you could find the parts that you need and take 'em home with you.

Is shipping really that bad? Even from a large parts house?

Also have you tried posting up in the local area forums? Sometimes there are guys who have a spare driveshaft to sell or at least loan out

It's pretty bad sometimes. Not to mention the shipping is twice the price as the part itself. So I'm looking at about $165 CAD for the flange yoke with shipping that might not get here before I need it.

What are some bigger chain auto parts stores up there? You got the collective help of TW that can help cross reference part numbers etc.
