Comes with the territory. Is it ideal? No.. but there are steps to take to help. Beefing suspension and other components. Boxing and gusseting frame sections. Upgrading brakes and drivetrain.

I've done all the above and there are still areas I'd like to beef.. I think I'll right around 6k lbs all said and done. Prior to X1 and rear bumper I was about 5600 loaded with my RTT/rack setup and gear. Add a little more for rear bumper, additional weight of X1 and gear..

A bit disappointing to me that my 2003 TRD Off Road had a payload of 1,400+ lbs and the 2015 only 1,040. So much for “ progress”.
Guess I’ll start looking at your suggested “beefing” improvements.
    Thanks!

FWIW I've got almost 60 nights of camping in all conditions in the PNW and haven't seen any of these callouts as major deal-breaking issues. If the desire is to have a 100% sealed enclosure then a hard sided camper is what you should be looking for rather than anything with a tent.

Remember: SP is literally only a year old as of last month - even the first iPhone had bugs :)

If you really want to be super dry in the PNW, gotta get out of a tent and into a van. Any tent in the PNW is going to have challenges.

The SP tent has met my expectations, if I keep my expectations reasonable and realistic.
I'm drier than I've ever been with any backpacking setup or RTT.

I recently had 3 nights on west side of Olympic Natl park. Wind, driving rain or constant drizzle a good chunk of the time.
Bedding stayed dry up top, even in a heavy rain. A little bit of water dripped in below in rear lower window seam, but that's easily remedied.

Wind did blow a little water in through back tent door, via unsecured bottom flap.
I'd like to see that improved with a zipper or snap closure. Anyone modded their rear tent flap yet?

Ive also wanted some type of mod for a full closure on the rear door. i also kinda wish at least one window had clear vinyl just to look out on storm days. anyone tried to take that first half of the tent? if thats easy then someone who knows how to use a sewing machine well might be able to make those requests...

Good point with the bottom flap. In high wind it is an issue.
I'm also very satisfied with the SP so far. I'll have 32 ish nights by the end of thanks giving. No rain yet, but maybe during thanks giving.

So get it weighed and see what the rear is. My truck is 7k fully loaded it’s heavy. It’s not hard to get up to 6k. At 6k you would likely be around 1000 over on the rear. You will def need to look into a heavy duty or custom pack.

@ripRavioli Look for someone that makes boat bridge enclosures using Isinglass or Strataglass. We have a lady here in the LA area that sewed together Isinglass and fabric for the bridge enclosure. Not sure what gauge material you would use. But I would assume they would have to take the tent off.

I have (2) 100W Renogy flexible solar panels mounted with industrial strength velcro. They’ve been through 100 degree weather, lots of rain (I live in the PNW), been in strong winds, snow and been on the truck for about 7k miles with no issues. I even sat on them when I was up there doing something. I get at least 150+ Watts of input from them (when sun is optimal of course) according to my Goal Zero.

So do we have a consensus on the bedside rail cap? Does the camper move less if you keep your original plastic caps? Or is it better to go with the aluminum caps like the one from voodoo fab but have the starboard spacer? (sounds like there are issues with both options)

My install date is this month as well so debating if I should go with the aluminum caps or not.

Agreed. I’ve only had one night in rain but it was basically a monsoon. I didn’t have any water intrusion. 30-50mph wind was also kept at bay, but it did blow hard enough that the tent would start collapsing a bit.

3rd Gen cab side stop for reference..

    upload_2021-11-10_7-33-48.jpg

My thoughts for a 2nd gen cab side hard stop.

Clearance hole on top surface large enough for head of bolt to pass through and get a socket in there. It would go through the top of the cab side T-Slot channel, so that you could access the bolt and nut from the inside/underside. Was also thinking if it needed more surface area spread throughout that aluminum square tube.. that a sleeve could be inserted into the top.. then the bolt recessed inside so it still sits below the top surface. I think it would be ok without though for simplicity sake and still be enough to keep the X1 from shifting. At least at this point.. it's a hard stop just like the above pictured 3rd Gen. Essentially the same thing.

best bet is to call them and describe the issues. In my experience, SP has been super responsive to problems like that and will make time to get you in and help correct/root cause if you’re able to get back to the shop.

Synergy, are your panels hooked up to the Yeti 100% of the time? I'm planning to install a 100 ah house battery that will be connected to a single 100 w solar panel. I don't have a lot of draw other than some LEDs and maybe a small pump for the mattress. thanks. Looks awesome BTW!!

Thanks!! Good info. My fridge is run off the Bluetti in the back seat. I'm trying to figure size and have added everything up with a % factor. much appreciated fellas!
