You are not alone. I worked a long time at the range and with snaps at home on changing my thumb placement to help relax my grip. It has helped tremendously.

Hang in there. Shooting well is a skill. Like most skills, it takes practice to acquire and maintain.
Folks, here, have been giving you good advice. I’d like to add to it. Practice dry firing with a pistol that has a laser. When dry firing, watch how the light reacts on a “target”. Focus on your grip and trigger pull to minimize the movement of the laser.
Another suggestion: if you can’t get to a range frequently or if ammo availability is an issue, pick up a quality air pistol and practice with that. The mechanics are similar.

When I picked up a Shield 9 (original version) I suddenly became the worst shooter on the line. Their not designed as a target gun, the early ones have a known heavy/gritty trigger and they are small and short. Sure I watched Hickok45 ring the gong but that is not me. My range only has a 25yd. pistol bench, I have old eyes and I too was shooting left and low. All and all a frustrating experience.

Short story, I went back to the basic of pistol shooting and tried to tune myself up, that did help. I really wished for a shorter target distance as 25yds. seemed a bit long to go back to basics with the Shield, couldn't do anything about that. Finally I decided to do something about the trigger. I'm not by any means a "smith" but you don't need to be. There is plenty of shield info on line with step by step. It is basically a polish job, no parts needed. My only cost was some hard wool tips for my Dremel tool. All I can say is night and day! In the long run, I'm better and so is the tool and I enjoy the range day with it again.

The Shield can be conquered, but it takes practice. Talon, stick on rubber, grips help with the original Shield, like mine. The newer version, M2.0, comes OEM with nicely textured grips.

I am right handed and throw the shots low and to the left, which is typical of a right hander. The trick is to at least minimize the error, resulting in a decent grouping.

I have the EZ9 so it’s even thinner and lighter it’s meant as just a carry gun

And so now the people around Charlotte will be scratching their heads asking where all the ammo went?
