Must not be maple leaves. I have to remove those bastards completely. If I don't, they acidize the ground and nothing grows...even weeds die off.

Performed yearly maintenance on my uncle's Scag Patriot.

First time getting under it. 60 hours on the clock.

Kind of disappointed. There are no grease zerks on the entire unit.

It does look to be a good product, but I don't see it ever going 2000 hours.

I did try out the fluid film/Cheyenne pepper anti vermin recipe. I did find lots of places that I could see mice shacking up for the winter. Hopefully I can keep those critters away.

I felt a bit guilty. All I could do was an oil/ filter change and change the blades. I did add a digital tachometer, so hopefully that makes the uncle happy.

Bummer on the zerks. There are a lot of grease fittings on my 2016 Cub XT3. At least 15 I can think of. Makes you wonder why Scag did that other than cost savings.

    Me, too.

I really wanted to consider this a commercial unit, but it's really only a high end consumer unit.

It does have the high end Sten, sealed spindles. I have been impressed with those. I was happy to see that.

I like how Scag set up the oil/ filter change environment. It is very hard to open the oil drain pet cock without removing the filter 1st. Once the filter is out, the oil change is cake, minus the leaking filter as you remove it. Wrapping the filter with Saran Wrap made the job close to spill free.

We call all cling film " Saran Wrap". I live in the town that it was 1st made and sold.

Sorry about the knowledge drop. I get side tracked. I like history.

Let me blow your mind on that drip problem. I take a 2 liter bottle and cut the side out of it and the bottom down to slip under the filter. Easy no drip oil collection.

Lol. I have used that method.

I didn't have any bottles to sacrifice since I can't remember when I last drank soda.

When glass bottles went away 25 years ago, I could never get used to the different taste, so I stopped drinking sodas.

Thankfully beer does not come in plastic bottles...yet...except at the Casino.

I also use 1 and 2 liters as funnels. The neck fits snugly in most oil fillers on my cars. Below is my dirt free capped funnel. Stays cap facing up in an oil filter box with a paper towel in it. Beside it is a long necked funnel in waiting.

I set my funnels on used air filters after use, the filters catch the oil drips and won't leave a mess behind.

Catching up on the 300+ posts. You all stay quite busy!

I have as well. Bringing in dirt/rock 8 tons per load to make another road for cement trucks.

Working to try to declutter "the archives" a bit for winter, found this little Sears ST/10, about 1973 vintage.

I got her years ago from a friend who has since passed on. A spritz of fuel in the carb and off she went.

    Has a 10 hp engine and a 3 speed with high/low range.

    KIMG1817.jpg

He painted the hood Ford blue for some reason.

    KIMG1818.jpg

Note the single taillight, original. For about 30 years the Sears tractors were built by Roper. If the model number starts with 917 it is a Roper.

    KIMG1820.jpg

Yes, that is a car horn above the deck lift, not stock. There is a doorbell push button for it. Note the deck has right angle gearbox for each blade.

    KIMG1816.jpg

Had to try out my new toy, non contact tachometer, $18 from Amazon. I tried it with the bench grinder, a drill and the tractor, you put a bit of reflective tape on whatever you want to check.

Pretty neat for less than a Jackson.

I've found those $15 tach/maint. Meters to be very accurate. I like them and the customers say they do as well.

I thought about grabbing one of those non contact units, but these cheap things are treating me well.

    Oops! Forgot I promised pics.

She runs great...on what sure smells like kerosene!

Found 1 small hole in the center of the deck. Owner opted not to have it welded closed. I agreed it was throwing good money after bad. I did tell him to please, please, please blow the dead grass off the deck at the end of the season! The grass rots and turns acidic.

I bought a Sun Joe plug in leaf blower for about $20 on Amazon. Initially I got it to dry cars after washing (works good) but I found it to be perfect for blowing off the mower deck. I was so impressed I bought a second one.

No one in this thread gives 2 shits about the house! Show us the shop!

Just kidding, house looks great! I don't want to be the one who cleans it, but it does look nice.

Test ran the CC. It seems to run fine. It idles great with no feathering the choke. I guess sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. I thought for sure I was rebuilding or replacing the carborator.

This machine is owned by a land lord. He said his renters never stored it inside. They left 2 years ago and it was sitting since then.

There are 2 belts for the deck. 1 was completely missing and I replaced it. The PTO belt has a chunk missing, so back to TSC I go in the morning.

I do like how CC set up the tensioner in these rigs. There is a built in lever attached to the idler pulley arm. Very user friendly.

I still hate the quick oil drain pet cock on these Kohler's. Those things are next to useless!
