Been getting pics of him since he was in velvet. Wednesday was the first time I had seen him, he came into my buck decoy at 35 yards. I’m trying same setup now.55654F19-D98F-4C23-B5A8-2497245352B0.jpg

After the slowest season I can remember, I finally saw a decent deer. Of course he was too far, but I'm moving in on him tomorrow. 93% chance I'll never see him again.
    Side note:
When hunting public land, hunt where the other people don't.

    Day of Depression...
    This morning sucked
    This afternoon:
Went to an area I haven't hunted in a few years; basically went there solely because there were no other people in the area. Anyhow, got climbed up around 2pm, sat there for about 5 minutes and decided I need to swing my (climber) stand around a tiny bit to the right because I like to try to keep deer in front of my or to my left since I'm right handed. Pull my bow back up, put release in pocket while I put my bow in bow holder...then I saw him. He was about 35 yards and making a scrape. And he was huge. Like, somebody take my picture with this deer huge. He had no clue I was there and he turned and started slowly walking away. I threw on my release (not gonna lie, I started shaking violently:anonymous:), nocked an arrow, hit the grunt call a couple of times and picked up the binos. By now he's at 75 yards and I get a good look thru the binos....I've killed a few decent deer, this deer was way beyond that.....when I hit the call he turned and started walking straight to my tree. I'm not picky, I'll take a spine shot anyday, and that looked to be my only option. One problem I had not thought about tho: the front (toe end) of my stand was kicked up a decent amount, therefore I had my left foot forward causing my left knee to be slightly bent. I drew back; when he cleared the brush at 5 yards I put my pin between his shoulder blades and hit my release. I felt the bottom limb of my bow hit my left kneeo_O, he bolted about 15 yards, stood there maybe 10 seconds, then trotted off. I spotted my arrow thru binos, it was roughly 7 yards from my tree, jabbed in the ground. Perfectly clean.
This deer is a mainframe 9pt that I can't even describe. Huge frame, absolute crazy mass, and kickers all over the bases. I've been lucky enough to kill a 162" deer, this one was bigger.
It'll take years for this to fade; but my fat ass will be right back in there tomorrow.
    Thanks for listening:hattip:

While I can’t relate to a monster of that magnitude I can relate to accidentally having a cam touching my knee while taking a shot. Did it in Montana last year.

I actually had a buddy on my land last week hunting and had a 150+ walk right in front of him as he was on his phone. I got a text “fuck fuck fuck” about 630 pm and knew exactly what happened

Decoyed this guy in tonight and killed him at 24 yards with my Excalibur Phoenix crossbow.

Absolutely love hunting with my boss buck decoy when the rut is on.

I've had the end of an Oneida limb drive down into my knee while distracted by the rush of buck fever. Maybe the worst pain I have felt in my life. Thank God I was hunting on the ground. I now UNDERSTAND that you can't shoot a bow, successfully, while sitting cross-legged. SO sorry you missed that buck. If you can gather some tarsal glands from a processing company and blanket the area he may return. Make drags out of them, then disperse them widely about chest high within your shot radius. Of course, you people already know this. Just preaching to the choir...
