Starting to plan for stage whatever I'm on of this build. I was laying under the truck for a bit last night and good God is it a rusty mess under there so time for some long term planning. Shits getting wore out under there and breaking. Example being my gas tank mount looks to be almost totally ripped off. Here's what I'm thinking, probably start buying parts over the next year and start on it next winter:
    • New frame built to my spec. Sschassisworx supposedly will build one pretty reasonable.
    • Maybe a flatbed and all the fun that comes with that
    • Link it f/r. Rear coils front coilovers
    • A non ford steering box LOL
    • Swap my entire drivetrain and cab over to that frame
    • Pay a shop to cage it because I don't have the skills or patience
    Short term:
    • Fix the frame where i see that it bent, and fix the parts that are ripping off of it
    • Rear air bumps if I can find some Black Friday deals (bro style)
    • Wheel it a lot more

With how stupid expensive donor trucks are and even pre built wheelers this is probably the easiest way to extend the service life of my tacoma.

How much would a custom new frame like that cost from them?

One of the guys I wheeled with got one built for a 4runner for a little over 2k.

For reference you can buy a factory new frame from Toyota for around 4k

Laid under the truck for a few hours today with a slag hammer and a screw driver trying to get the truck to tell me some stories of wtf happened. I found a crease back by my shock mount on the rear frame rail and nothing much else. I think all the force just bent the bastard. I was whaling on the frame with a slag hammer trying to find soft spots and holes, everything is solid. The only issue I found was on the opposite side by the fuel tank where I patched a rotted out hole. The frame cracked and a chunk is ready to come off. The rest of the frame forward of the body mount is good. The new plan I think is to chop the rear end off right at the rear body mount and rebuild the ass end of the truck. I may flat bed it, probably a roll bar back there as well. I do need to be able to carry cargo and shit so probably some sort of removable spare tire mount for when I go wheeling. I'll most likely keep it leafs and dump all my money into tooling and metal to fix this shit.
More pics of where the frame bent. Super solid metal.

Replaced the carrier bearing today and did some preventative maintenance while I was under there. Greased all the u joints f/r, tightened ubolts etc. Truck is smooth as glass, some of those zerks we're thirsty!!
    IMG_20211031_143614261.jpg

I have been chasing down a rattle, screeching, almost like a stripped out spline sound since I went to windrock a few months back. It's loud as hell, like people turn and look loud. I serviced my front hubs thinking something was fuckerd up there, well today I pinpointed it to the rear. Of course I assume the worst and was thinking my lockers fucked. I drain the gear lube looking for metal, and while I was down there I bumped the pinion dust shield and it rattled and sounded like the noise I have been chasing. Gear lube looked good, so I am writing it off as the dust shield and not worrying about it.

Goes to show to assume it's the simplest problem and go from there.

I had the same issue with my dust shield. I threw a dab of RTV around it against the yoke to keep it off the diff case. Been fine for the last 3 years

It seriously has been! I honestly think that trip was the most carnage ridden since I started wheeling this truck LOL!!

Everytime I think about doing that tube bed with factory bedsides, I say fuck it may as well just slap the stock bed on there. I have time, I have a few grand in electrical work to do to my garage and tools to buy to ponder.

Warped my front rotors (I think), so I picked up some power stops from rock auto.

The truck violently shakes the steering wheel under braking, everything looks tight...

Developed a bad shake on braking when this thing imbedded itself into the inboard side of one of the rotors.

    Damn!!

I'm running some really old brake pads that I'm sure aren't helping the situation either. New pads show up Friday, fingers crossed these actually fit over the rotors unlike the last time I did the brakes on this axle!!

Don't forget to do the whole proper bed-in process for the pads and rotors!

Floor it to 30 stomp on the brakes, repeat 3 times and call it good?

That's my test procedure for everything.

Well this truck isn't moving for a while, looks like I broke the main leaf on the front driver's side at either windrock or Harlan. Probably both trips did it in. Anyway at least I didn't put some unicorn springs up there, fawk LOL!!

Look real close by the spring plate.

I was trying to bang these straight and notice the main leaf was u shaped...
