Dobinsons 2016-2023 Taco Suspension Options

It will probably settle even a little more...I originally had the 302 coils on the 220 struts and 110R in the back, ended up at just over 1" all around on stock weight, even though those are supposed to give over 2". Upgraded to the 314s and 111R in the back and now I'm settled at a little over 2". I've seen a few other guys post in this thread with the same issue, I'm not sure if some trucks are different or if most people just don't notice the lift settling

 

Looks like 302 is 1.6”, 314 is 2”. 352 should be 2.4” on stock front weight.

Edit: you said 220 struts so add 1” to above, sorry. That is a massive bummer. I would have gotten the other struts and the heavier leaf pack if I knew what’s advertised isn’t correct.

 

If you're sure that you're not getting the advertised lift I would follow up with whoever you purchased it from. I went through Mainline Overland and Dobinsons Direct and they were both very helpful; I swapped the coils with MLO for the 314s and Dobinsons Direct shipped me the 111Rs free of charge. Sorry, I probably should have mentioned that earlier. It's rare to find companies anymore that care about their customers and stand behind their products!

 

I reached out last night to Dobinsons Direct. Explained what’s going on and they confirmed 2” front and 1.25” rear. I mentioned I submitted my full order just a few days before the 10% sale. AAL to 110s to make them 111s is 5% of my order total, so getting those for free would make me get the advertised rear height and account for ordering just before a sale. I don’t know what to do about the front. Should probably get the other struts because 354s instead of 352 coils would make the front unbearably stiff I think. But that’s like $600? At the end of the day, I should be getting what was advertised. I ordered UCAs because I thought my lift would be 2.5” and I wanted to be safe. But if it’s 2” now and settles to 1.5-1.75” then I wasted money on the UCAs and didn’t get what I wanted or what was advertised. I’m hoping Dobinsons helps me to resolve this as I really do like the suspension and I’ve enjoyed the customer service so far.

 

You're not alone here. I was not recommended the correct springs when I placed my order. I got the 350's instead of the 352's I should have gotten, and now I'm going to have to add a spacer.

I think you're gonna love those 285's though. They look great and that's the size I almost went with.

Has anyone used a spring compressor on these dobinsons coils? I need to install longer studs on mine and a local shop wants $80 per coil to do it. Think I can do it for a lot cheaper if I can find a spring compressor that'll work.

 

Personally I would pay the shop. Unless you're planning on installing a wall mounted spring compressor in your home garage. The rental ones from AutoZone and such are very janky

 

Gotcha, yea I'm not tryin to get hurt here. I watched my dad use one when I was a wee lad and it looked kinda sketch but it did work. Maybe I'll leave it to the pros.

Spring rate on the 354s is the same as the 352, only the length is 1/4" longer. Somehow it all works out (stiffness should be the same).

 

So Dobinsons should send me an AAL and 354s?

 

As mentioned, I'd personally go for the 354s. It will feel stiff in the rear with the 111 add-a-leafs, but that is technically the correct application for the RTT. If you're always removing the weight from the bed, then I'd consider keeping the 110s.

 

Seems like 354s and 111s gets me what 352s and 110s advertises. Hopefully they send me the new parts and I can ship them the current ones after I install the new ones. What a mess. Just advertise the right numbers. Thank you for the info.

 

I found the rear leafs gave a higher lift than advertised, while the front coils gave a lower lift than advertised (especially after settlement). But as @Crikeymike said, tacomas vary from 20, 20.5 and 21", so there's a range depending on the model weight. For anyone considering this suspension, if looking for max lift in the front, then you may consider going one size up.

 

I wonder if it would be better to get 354s on my 221 struts or just put the 352s I have on 220 struts instead

 

Put 354s on some MRAs, throw on the Marlin Cam Tab Gussets, and Spindle Gussets.

 

I was content with the amount I spent on the setup with the expected results... if they swap the 352s for 354s or 220s for 221s I'll be happy. I'm expecting at least 2" of lift in the front after settling and adding weight, as advertised, since that's what I paid for. If they can't make it right, I'll get a refund. My intention was to try out this lift for 2-3 years and then jump up to MRR adjustable setup with 35s... But if this setup doesn't get resolved by Dobinson then I'll reach out to another company to try and partner.

 

Give them a second to catch up. They've got great customer service.

 

That's what I'm hoping for, I'd love to represent the brand if the product and customer service both live up to the hype! I have a pretty intense amount of content creation planned for Colorado hobbies

 

Even if it's not official representation, having a good relationship with a reputable company is pretty great.

And my non Taco truck will eventually need around 2 inches of ride height and supple suspension flex added, so there's a solid chance I'll be purchasing from Dobinsons in the future as well

 

I just used the old jack under the LCA method, using the weight of the truck as a spring compressor. It's kind of sketchy at first but having done it like 5 times already trying to get this setup perfected you get the hang of it Unless you don't enjoy fiddling with your truck, then by all means spare yourself the sweat lol
