Charlotte, NC area: hate on OP, houses, boats & hoes

Oh it's definitely stupid.

I moved here from Ohio 4 years ago, I never changed my Ohio's DL or CCW over as they were still valid and I wanted to save on taxes. They finally expired this year, so I got a NC DL, moved my truck over to NC plates, etc..

I knew I would have to take a CCW class more than likely, but wanted to take it with a new gun (USPSA competitive shooter here) so I went to the local gun store and ordered a new gun. Once it came in I was told about making sure I bring my pistol purchase permit or NC CCW in to buy it. That's when they told me they've been hearing of 9 month+ wait times. The Meck Co. web site still states it will be ready in ~14 days or something which is a scam in itself.

That's also when I was excited I bought from a local small gun store instead of a big box store, as they were able to send it to a responsible citizen to do the transfer.

 

So the state has no involvement in NFA items, but will cause you to wait an equal amount of time for non-NFA items. Makes perfect sense.

In TX, that would be very illegal.

Speaking of TX and all this gun law / CCW permit stuff, it seems as though the gun laws in TX have changed around concealed carry since I was a resident. As such, my TX license isn't as crystal clear that it is accepted in GA. I wasn't planning on getting a GA license, but I suppose I should just to avoid having to explain it to anyone in the event that such a thing were necessary. Especially since my county only requires fingerprints and check (not to rub it in).

 

That is correct. Partly because NFA items are already highly regulated by the fed. Now as far as pistols go the CCW permit and pistol purchase permit the background checks for those are nothing more than the normal background check you'd do when filling out a 4473 and going through NICS (or whatever it's called). It's just done through the sheriff's office and they charge you money. I can't really say much else than that or it'll end up too political and I'd catch a ban. But I think you can infer it. We've been working hard at getting constitutional carry passed and doing away with CCW permits and all that mess.
