Interesting thread. I don't tow much more that 3000 pounds of boat so I hardly feel it. MPG around 18 with a MT. No trouble at freeway speed, but of more interest to me is stability at twisty rural roads. I do like the hill hold at boat ramps. Not infrequently have to use 4wd H to deal with seaweed ( big tides) and there is one place I launch with a dirt berm that needs 4LO crawling to climb up.

I noticed a sag on my setup as well and did some research on Sumo springs and helper springs. I didn’t consider WDH as I was never going to be anywhere near towing 5000. I ended up installing Hellwig EZ 990 helper springs and the sag problem is solved. My towed weight is between 3250 and 3700 and the tongue wt runs between 390 and 450 conventional tow.

Just purchased a new to me 2010 Shadow Cruiser S195WBS. Can’t decide if I want to do Air Bags or an AAL.7D32EC15-D8D5-479E-BA6C-4AB17014C0AB.jpg

I use a Redarc brake controller and an Anderson Wdh. The Redarc is a nice unit that hides the controller so you don’t have a bulky mount on your dash.

Hey fellow Cement-Tacoma-Apex-Nano-pulling friend! Which one did you get? I've got a 208BHS but it is from before they switched to the new paint job/designs. (Still matches the Cement pretty decently though.)

I wondered about an Anderson hitch for a horse trailer, since they are so low that other WDHs are too low (I tried a couple and bars only 4 inches off pavement). The one thing I read somewhere is that the action of an Anderson can confuse the truck's built in sway control function and you should turn it off. Anyone experience a problem with this? I am towing a 13' stock trailer that weighs 2300 pounds empty and in the pic I have 1000 pounds of sheep in there. It towed well like this without a WDH, but I could potentially add another 1000 pounds or so. This was only 9 lambs and there's room for another 10 easy. Downhill with this load the air drag was enough to hold me back in 3rd. Mileage over 300 km round trip with some decent hills was 17 L/100 km (sorry, not sure what it is in mpg). Truck is a 2017 with towing pkg. Brake control works really well. Trailer is 6'6" wide (above fenders) so mirrors were sufficient. Definitely takes up the lane, almost 8 feet wide at the wheels.

that is a really low trailer. It might be hard to find a WDH that is not close to the ground

I think the sway control (TSC) is pretty rudimentary on the Tacoma. After all it doesn't even have a true proper trailering mode. From what I've seen doing some searching, there is not a way to just disable the TSC either, to do so you have to totally disable the VSC which disables a lot of your safety systems including traction control, PCS, and others I think. Here's a discussion thread on a Tundra forum where they talk about it, with a specific post linked where they contacted a WDH manufacturer and was told there wouldn't be conflict between the TSC and the WDH. I'm inclined to agree. I think it would probably take quite a lot before the TSC kicked in and you want the WDH with its anti-sway to cover you to that point, and hopefully having it would make it so the TSC never even had to turn on. From personal experience, I've towed my travel trailer and never felt the TSC kick in, so I think it would require pretty extreme circumstances. Not sure if the Andersons are different than other WDH, but maybe someone else who has one can weigh in on if they've noticed any issues.

Been looking for a toy hauler that will let me "live" (used loosely) for extended periods of time in it. Will need to haul a couple of motorcycles. not sure of the size though as my 3rd gen Sport (access cab, tow, MT) isn't rated for a zillion pounds. Any links to read up on this so I can learn is appreciated! Example website I've been perusing: https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/28993902.cfm

I thin Geo Pro makes some nice small travel trailer/toy haulers that the Tacoma would be able to handle.
