Axle Swap E-Locker 96 Tacoma.

What axle swap can I do for my truck to get a locker. Will a newer truck axle with E-locker work on my truck? Thanks!

 

have you considered an ARB air locker?

 

Ya you can do a axle swap but its spendy! I don't know about the e locker, but you could do a arb air locker also. You can get a axle from a 80-85 toyota I think. You could also cut up a dana 44. That's what I would do.

 

I herd that it is easier and cheaper to buy a used axle with the locker all ready in it.

 

It is. Look around at some junkyards. I pulled a rear axle with a diff lock out of a 01 Tacoma trd and got it for 250. Way cheaper than the arb.

 

Do some research....despite what you "heard", it's easiest and cheaper to do ARB air locker.

Not sure where your getting your information.
I have seen complete trd rears with e locked 3rds go for $300-$400.
And it should bolt right up minus splicing the electronics for engaging the system.
Also I would guess that your average driveway mechanic could do this in a day.

An Arb itself will cost you twice that + a compressor + a shop to install.
Your looking at maybe $1600

Yes. Any rear axle from 98-04 will bolt right up. Look around at some junkyards. Just make sure its a true trd axle. And it will be much cheaper to find a used elocked axle than an arb.

 

Are the rear ends different on a 4 banger and V6's..?

 

Well in that case, I stand corrected.....I have never seen a complete TRD axle for less than $1000, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. I put in a ARB + compressor in my old 03 Tundra for right at $750, I did the install.

OP-If you do get a TRD axle from a junkyard or something, I might pull the cover to make sure everything is in good shape. Would suck to go through all the labor of installing only to find the teeth severely worn. Good luck

Why are you wanting to do a swap anyway? Just add a Powertrax Lockrite.. I can't tell you enough how much I love mine.. $175. No swap shit intended, no need to worry about gears, and it's easy to install.

And no not all trucks have the 4.10s.

 

Where did you get your locker. The only ones i have seen are like $300. And is it a continuous lock, or does it lock automatically? Thanks.
