Oh hell to the NO! Was this found in close proximity to the OBD port? I'm checking my truck tomorrow.

    OP,

Rent a car for the day and swap this into the rental when both cars are turned off with battery disconnected.

Update: I removed it and now my keyless entry system doesn't work. I reinstalled it and it still doesn't work. I did remove the dash panel under the steering wheel to get at the device, but didn't disturb anything else and reconnected everything.

    WTF. Any ideas?

The GPS trackers usually just pull voltage and ground from the OBD port. Its just the easiest and most universal place to do it. It shouldnt interfere with the key fobs. Thats why lojack just shows location and battery voltage. I dont think they are that smart of devices. I think you need at least 4 wires for canbus communication.

Do all the fobs not work? Could it be the battery in the one your trying and some bad luck?

Also I think pin 5 is a ECM ground and pin 16 is 12v power. It would be hard to do, but could have any shorting happened?

So the tracker does have four wires, power plus a yellow and green twisted pair that look like signal lines. Can't tell which bus they run to without checking continuity on the pins, but I can if you're particularly curious.

I have two fobs and neither work to unlock the doors (but the engine will start, interestingly), so not a battery issue. Also since I posted, I've also noticed that the interior lights won't work unless the engine has been started. Removing the negative lead at the battery for 30 minutes did not help.

I think if it has four wires it can monitor some stuff like maintenance alerts.

    The pinout is like this...

So it senses when the fob is inside the car? Can it sense your near and then you can touch the handle to unlock? Or are the buttons dead and its not sensing your fob is near?

It seems to sense when the fob's in the car since it doesn't give a 'key not found' error when I start it, but the driver door handle recognition doesn't work, walk-up interior lights don't happen, fob buttons do nothing (but the fob is alive, the red light on it activates) and interior lights don't work, unless it's running.

I did remove the dash panel below the steering wheel to get at where the thing was ziptied up in there. I restored all connections, so I don't know how that could be it.

Will it lock? I heard some Gen 2 fobs would glitch and loose some functionality but not all. The fix was a reprogram. A bit more involved on the Gen 3.

No it won't lock either, unless I use the driver's door lock button, and the only if it's running.

Going to the dealer tomorrow, unfortunately...

No, I ran out of daylight, but I'll give it a shot in the morning. Thanks for pointing that one out.
